The proof of what YOU say, will be found when or if you go down.
You appear to suggest all your team are 'better' than ours, yet it doesn't seem to be a great gulf in between the standard required for our division versus the Championship's (aside maybe from the promotion likely sides at the top). So, a BOTTOM champs side has to be superior in quality compared to a TOP league 1 squad?
I don't THINK so, scummer!
A top side like ours would generally be expected to 'do okay' in the league above, though probably not set the division alight. By my reckoning, we'd do better than pal(filth!)ace are right now, and our squad is fairly 'even' in its' compliment of talent.
T'would be lovely to meet in the cup, as it's very possibly the only place to see anything proved out. We would humiliate your rubbish, is my prediction
This bit is true. I don't think we will go down at all.
The vast majority of our team were playing when we were a decent top-6 side. Our squad is very young on the whole, 6 people in our first XI are under 21 years old. Our Chairmen are trying to build a "Palace for the future", and I hope it works. The gulf between League 1 and the Championship is massive, except for clubs who are far too big to be in L1 (Leeds, Norwich etc). I am predicting Millwall to struggle next year, like Bristol City did.
If we had a squad worthy of being the worst in the Championship, I'd agree that top of League 1 is better. With a decent manager, we'd be upper mid-table at worst. I think you have a better squad than Preston do now (after the disgraceful - but ultimately helpful - actions of Ferguson Sr.)
I think you'd struggle in the Championship, as do my Brighton supporting mates, but if you bring in some new players you could do alright. I don't think the Premiership will call you for a long, long time though.
The only thing stopping us from being a play-off team is a defensive midfielder and keeping our goalscorers fit. January will be a very important time for our new manager.
I'd LOVE to meet you in the cup at Selhurst. We'd show you what a real atmosphere is like! It has been electric at Selhurst since the Admin period.
