Player ratings vs Wrexham

Brez - 8 - Great performance, the only way he was going to get beaten was by a deflection.
Calderon - 6 - Very rusty.
Sampayo - 6 - Am not sure. Of course he is young, but perhaps understandably looked shaky and defended poorly for the second goal.
Hall - 8 - MoM for me, looked very cultured going forward and covered Vincelot throughout.
Vincelot - 5 - Poor performance, some shocking decision making.
Navarro - 6 - Ok, but unspectacular
Sparrow - 6 - Disappointing after his excellent performance Monday.
Forster-Caskey - 8 - Busy throughout, rarely surrendered possession.
Lua-Lua - 7 - Shame about the injury.
Buckley - 6 - Needs a trick, bit over reliant on pace alone.
Barnes - 5 - Can't remember a worse performance from him.

Kazim - 6 - Always available, well balanced.
Rodgers - 5.5 - Good initially but then tried the 'difficult' ball too much.
Toby - 7 - Great start

Pretty much agree with this. Only difference was I'd have Caskey as MOM

Brezovan - 7 Solid, a couple of really good moments (getting down at the feet of their striker in the first half to snatch the ball mainly)

Calderon - 4 Not up to speed, guess he wouldn't have played if El-Abd was fit
Vincelot - 5 Looked shaky
Hall - 7 Not hugely tested defensively, very comfortable on the ball
Sampayo - 6 Got beaten for the goal and all round not as strong in the second half, thought he looked class in the first.

Buckley - 6 Flitted in and out, his delivery was not the best today, but moments of class and always a threat
Navarro - 3 Slow on and off the ball, moving with it and passing, back to the worst of Navarro today
Sparrow - 5 Got worse as the game went on, nvisible in the last half hour when we needed senior players to step up
Forster-Caskey - 7 Decent, not as good as Monday, again getting in the box which is something we haven't had enough - outshone his two midfield collegues by far
LuaLua - 7 Most threatening player, looking very good, looked like a hamstring injury which is so frustrating as he's finally coming back to form

Barnes - 2 Probably the worst he's ever played for us. Woeful.

Agdestein - 7 Looked decent but there was one moment where he had space in the box and seemed to freeze up. But promising (as all the young lads were)
Kasim - 6 Tidy and moved the ball quickly and well, looked less comfortable further up the pitch
Rodgers - 6 Couple of poor moments but also some very good ones, I like the look of him.

Bit of a strange one from Gus, with the starting line up and then the subs at 1-0/1-1 seemed to almost guarantee a replay. I guess he forgot last season.

GK Brezovan - 8 Kept us in the cup with a good block at the end. Commands his area so much better than Casper and has earned a run in the side unless we sign a new GK in the window.

RB Calderon - 4 Poor game but has just returned from injury.
LB Sampayo - 5 Done OK
CB Hall - 8 MOM for me looks another great prospect. Prepared to come out of defense with the ball also which helps open the game up for us.
CB Vincelot - 6 Had a good game - a real moment of madness in injury time almost eliminated us.

CM Navarro - 4 Really poor game, looked off the pace and today has convinced me he is not the type of player we should retain whilst in the Championship.
CM Sparrow - 7 Industrious as always, made a crucial tackle in the first half to prevent a certain goal.
CM Forster-Caskey - 7 Well taken goal and always looking to make something happen, surely a better bet than Harley on current form.
RM Buckley - 6.5 Always threatened but didn't see enough of the ball.
LM Lua Lua - 7 Great run for our goal but like Buckley we couldn't get him on the ball enough. Seemed to have trouble keeping his balance/feet in the first half.

Str Barnes - 4 Cannot play the lone striker role as demonstrated against Gillingham earlier in the season. Neat and tidy in possession but didn't really look interested second half. Like Navarro not good enough for us at Championship level.

Subs
Adgestein -6.5 Very promising. Seemed quite direct until he got in front of goal when he seemed to be in two minds.
Kasim - 6 Got booked - rarely gave the ball away.
Rodgers - 6 Great first touch which could have resulted in goal of the season. To his credit tried to make things happen but final ball was rarely accurate.

Brez 7.5

Hall 7.5 (mom)
Vincelot 6

Buck 6.5
Spaz 5
Barnes 3

Torby 6.5
Rodgers 7
Kasim 7.5

Yes it's poor we drew at home to Wrexham, but I think the main reasons for how we played was (1) having one up-front at home to a conference team (2) that lone forward was AWFUL (and I'm a fan of Barnes).

On the plus side, I thought the three subs played really well, and Kasim is going to be a real player. Rodgers looked like a player who is always looking to do something, and we lack that.

Hall was MoM for me. Calderon and (not to the same extent) Vincelot let Hall down today.

Brezovan 7 Did all that was expected but distribution poor
Calderon 4 Sadly lacking against a non league winger but put in some reasonable crosses.
Vincelot 5 Reasonably competant apart from bad back passes near the end which could have cost us.
Hall 8 Very good performance MOM comfortable on the ball and showed why Gus could let Cook go.
Sampayo 4 Scared to tackle not an impressive performance
Sparrow 6 Solid performance good 1st half but faded.
Navarro 4 Didnt fill the shoes of Bridcutt very well and was found lacking.
JFC 7 Good performance but needs to tackle back a little more
Buckley 6 Didnt show his class enough, when he did he was ok.
Barnes 3 Very poor perhaps Worthing need a striker on loan.
Lua Lua 5 Brief moments of skill but not enough and didnt take the full back on enough

Subs:

Adgestein 5 Couple of good moments on the ball but showed he is not the answer to partner CMS.
Rogers 6 Best of the substitutes seemed like he wan ted to play football and put some passes together.
Kasim 4 Didnt impose himself enough.

Poyet 3 Not interested in winning and showed even less enthusiasm than Barnes.

Can't believe you're dishing out the sevens and eights after a home draw against a conference team. Jesus, what would you be awarding if we'd played a good team? 30 out of 10? 40?

Brezovan - 6
Calderon - 4
Vincelot - 4
Hall - 5
Sampayo - 4
Buckley - 5
Navarro - 3
Sparrow - 3
Forster-Caskey - 6
Kazenga - 6
Barnes - 0.5

Agdestein - 5
Rodgers - 5
Kasim - 3

just to point out that although Wrexham are a conference side, the majority of the team yesterday have either played at a higher level, or as in the case of Obeng and Chizz (the scorer) released by Man City, Jay Harris released by Everton learnt their trade outside the BSP.

I read these threads and the other match comment ones before seeing the highlights on S4C. Must be quite misleading, because the low marks for barnes on here suggested perhaps the worst footballing performance ever, yet in the first attack shown Barnes pressuring their keeper and forcing him to rush his clearance, which fell to Lualua who took the shot, every attack they showed had barnes right there for the rebound, bar one, where he managed to pull away from his marker and got clear at the far post, and JFC shot instead, and the defender Barnes had lost was right in the line of the shot to guard the lose parry from the keeper (I presume this is the chance that people are criticising barnes for not following up, when he was not really in a position to do so). Guess with Paynter back at leeds and harley not featuring, Barnes was back in his role as scapegoat.

I'm a Barnes fan, but I didn't think he had a very good game on Saturday. He was not as shit as everyone is saying, mind. He had some decent shots, but looked a bit, I dunno, disinterested? I thought he was outshone by Torby in the half an hour he was on.

But yeah, definitely not a <4 performance from Barnesy, maybe a 5?
