Lancing
Disappointing game one shot on target first half and same second half after!

Ryan 6 didn't have a lot to do from Villa attacks but had to control some right awful back passes from his team mates
Alzate 6 Don't know what it is he's a star coming off the bench, did ok but nothing special today
Bernardo 7 played well owed a lot to long legs and neck getting the team out of trouble
Dunk 6 to be honest not much to do but should have been tighter on Grealish towards end of first half
Webster 6 as above maybe could have done a bit more getting over to support Montoya for their equaliser
Mooy 6 Villa targeted him from the off as soon a he got the ball three plays on him and when he was free pace let him down
Stephens 7 Played ok a couple of well won tackles and did enough to put Grealish off towards the end of the first half
Propper 8 he was my MOM driving runs almost always forward he's been very consistent of late would like to see him further forward bursting into the box to provide some hight
Trossard 6- very well taken goal couple of cleaver flicks but light weight knocked off the ball far to easily and not happy getting stuck in for what was a dog fight
Connolly 6 feeding on scraps its to much on such young shoulders completly bullied yesterday works hard a potential real star in the making if we don't burn him out at this early stage in his development
Maupay 7.5 worked so hard like Connolly never gave up he's by far the best striker we have playing of scraps almost won the game last min but for a great save

Montoya 5 not on long enough to get any better score think he could have done better for their goal he tight was on Grealish but pulled away 10 yards allowing Grealish to get his shot off while behind him Webster Benardo were both only jogging into position

Murray 5 as Montoya not on long enough but why bring him on and take off the winger who could fire in crosses seems strange to me

Gross 5 as Montoya couple of half decent runs and corners

Potter 4 he picked the team chose the tactics failed to change things enough to win the game .

We could and really should be five points clear this morning but we are not we could have lost but we didn't fortunately other results were kind to us, we looked tired low on confidence and in need of a leader on the pitch I thought the Duffy Dunk combo looked better than the Dunk Webster one in such times of need and a target is needed up front, having said all that it's all in our hands beat Bournemouth Tuesday and we will be in a much better position, I would have preferred Ali to have replaced Conolley for the last twenty mins.

Never mind we move on

Poor performance against a poor side who looked unlikely to score then any sise this season. Dont get enough support from midfield to our forwards. Stephens defends Propper who has the ability play nearer forwards but doesnt. That leaves our best attacking midfielder Mooys.who for some strange reason played wide right. Did his good performances when he dominated central attacking midfield go unnoticed. Bet Villa couldnt believe there luck to see him pushed out wide. Alzate another one whose best position is attacking midfielder but played as a winger or even worse a full back
Ryan 6 Nothing to do but poor distribution.
Bernardo 7 Good game
Dunk 6 Average and far to many bookings because out of position or outpaced
Webster 6 Average
Alzate 6 Why is he playing fuiiback
Propper 6 Typical of most of his games Very good one moment them moments of very poor
Stephens 6 Better then recent but no contribution to forward play
Mooy 5 Our most likely player to attack and get forward in central midfield.Wasted on right wing.
Trossard 6 Average but one of few that do something special
Connelly 3 Just think he is out of his depth. His only game is to look for through balls and over the top
Maupay. 6 Thought he did ok. Unlike Connelly always trying to make himself available which would show in amount of touches.

As far as Potter is concerned it just seemed he wanted to play Propper,Stephens,Mooy, and Alzate. Then realises they cant all play in there best position so sod it I will fit them all in somewhere. It may

West...West.......WEST SUSSEX
Eveyone six except
Bernado 7 looked good
Dunk 5 thought he looked poor today certainly Mings looked the better centre half.
Stephens 6.5 steadier game
Propper 6.5 looked good but always loses the ball once or twice in a game....and he did.

Mooy left him at 6, he had one or two good runs but he was consistently marked by 3 players and it usually resulted in an awful foul leaving Mooy poleaxed. Rightly subbed as he was spent after coming back from injury.
Just to mention Connolly, I didn't think he was that bad, he was brushed off the ball at times but the Villa team were very hard on him and Mings v him was a little one sided. Thought Trossard had a good first half too.....terrible second though.

I’d agree with all of that, bar slightly higher for Propper

Ryan 6: Nothing to do against one of the worst attacking sides to come to the Amex, aside from one time we gave that greasy bellend the freedom of the 18 yard box.

Alzate 7: 6 for being at RB when he's not that good there, but definitely improved when Montoya came on and we pushed him up the line. I still don't know where he fits in the team though.
Bernardo 8.5: superb work from him, only negative is some attacking decisions, when he could perhaps have pushed on and given an outlet on the left, but would be harsh to criticise esp if he's been told otherwise.
Dunk 6: Not a terrible game, but we've seen better from him.
Webster 7: Quite a few people shitting on him but I thought he did well - perhaps could have done more to cover Montoya for the equaliser, but other than that I don't remember him doing anything else wrong.

Mooy 6: Not his day. Villa were clearly petrified of him so they marked him out of the game.
Stephens 7: Much better than recently - some good work tracking back
Propper 8: Until late in the 2nd when he tired he was the silky Dutchman we all know and love. Controlled things against Villa's "midfield" and kept that shinpad-less tart quiet.
Trossard 6: 8 in the first half (what defenders Villa chose to play couldn't cope with him) but like so many times he faded badly and couldn't affect the game when we slipped down the gears.

Connolly 6: I said this in the match thread - he is only 19 and has played half a season (not regularly) above League 1, so we need to let him grow and develop into what could be a great player. Today wasn't his day but he was still a nuisance.

Maupay 7: Won me over taking the piss out of that girly #10's hair and great pace on the ball for his assist, but a day when up against the oafs they had in defence meant he couldn't find the space to work his magic. When he did they creamed their jockstraps.

Montoya 6: Probably should have done better for the goal (but a collective lack of positioning by the defence) but other than that, not much to report
Gross/Murray: Not on long enough, though we didn't play to Murray's strengths and didn't get the ball into the box for him to attack, meaning he had to come short for balls or retrieve them himself - not his game.

Indeed and his jockeying with Grealish down the touchline where Propper came away with the ball was a highlight of his battling qualities today, Propper is good at finding time on the ball, and general ball skills but he seems to be adding a tougher edge to his game too now.

Edit did not see that DavidinSouthampton had already mentioned this

Does that matter? Just emphasises the point:clap2:

Ryan - 6
Alzate - 6.5
Webster - 6
Dunk - 5.5
Bernardo - 7.5
Propper - 7
Stephens - 7.5 MOTM
Mooy - 6.5
Trossard - 7
Maupay - 7
Connolly - 5.5

Thought Stephens was excellent, but i still prefer us playing without him. Alzate played well, but he's not a right back. Can see why Southgate chooses Mings over Dunk. Trossard was excellent in the first half but faded in the second.

I think we need a right back, a striker and another option to play in the right of an attacking 3.
