First time i've seen the Albion in a few years (I've been living in Sydney). My thoughts were as follows:

I thought Lua Lua was brliiant. He looks a really dangerous player. With a bit of coaching he could be Prem standard. I was excited every time he got the ball. I really hope we sign him.

Calderon was fantastic. He seemed to be absolutely everywhere. We need to get him signed up.

Bennet looks class.

The team is just lacking that cutting edge up front. I thought both Barnes and Holroyd looked decent players. However, that final ball to them seemed to be missing.

Despite losing i was very excited by the performance. I think i'll be heading to Gillingham and Southend next week!

Next season could be awesome.

This seems a more appropiate summing up.. Hoyte looked terrified everytime the ball was passed to him and Holroyd was just Holroyd out of his depth get rid next season or loan out

I'm pretty sure you would agree with anyone who rated Holroyd badly.
IMO a 3 is a bit harsh, I didn't think he did much wrong.

Well as he did nothing apart from get in Barnes's way it's hardly surprising.

Can't be arsed with giving numbers, apart from to say Andrew Crofts was my MoM (was everywhere, driving on a bunch of otherwise - certainly in the first half - fairly lethargic players), and that Lua Lua, exciting though he is to watch, needs to get his head up now and then.

To be fair Holroyd came closer than Barnes to scoring. Apart from that he did achieve quite literally nothing, apart from maybe getting mildly out of breath.

Blimey Doug, does Knowing everything ever make you tired? Maybe you dropped off due to the quiet crowd & missed his contribution.

How the f*** can you call that a dull game?!! We murdered them for most of it and were only really let down by the final ball and a lack of luck. We could and should have tonked them by five or six.

Some of the people on here are beginning to sound like Chelsea fans!

A) NEVER EVER compare me to a chelsea fan

B)f***ing about with the ball around the penalty area, being restricted to potshots from outside the area & only testing the keeper once or twice, for me, does not constitute an exiting game.

C) & yes with a bit of luck we could have hammered them but we didn't have any, the final ball was shit & we weren't good enough to break them down.

I never said we weren't the better team but with little goalmouth action, neither keeper hardly making a save & the amount of petty fouls making a stop start game I'd still call it dull.

What contribution was that....1-shot and then running around in thw wrong direction... he adds nothing to the team and is half the player Forster and Dickinson currently are.... from what is saw he hardly touched the ball

What?

If you change whatever is "average" per game, you can't compare performance by game.

If you say 5 is the mark for an 'average' performance. Then a 6 versus Carlisle is a performance equal to a 6 versus Southampton.

If you change the average every game then a 5 in one game could equate to a 8 in another game. Where is the sense in that? How can you keep track of how good performances for an individual are if the ratings definition changes each week?

An average performance should always earn the same mark. A great performance should always earn the same mark. A poor performance should earn the same mark.

The mean (and mode) average of each game will change, of course. A better performance overall will lead to everyone getting better marks because a better performance overall is a result of better indivdual performances), so the team average (mean/mode) will go up.

Well if the whole team gets a 7, the average isn't a 5 is it?

Well if the whole team gets a 7, the average isn't a 5 is it?

There seems to be confusion of the statistical analysis of the ratings with the definition of what those ratings stand for.

When samhale says "5 is average" what he means is "An average footballing performance by a given individual is rated as 5/10". This "average footballing performance" is an average of every performance by every footballer, not just eleven in one match, on one given day.

If the whole team put in an above average performance the mean average mark (total sum of marks divided by number of marks) will not be 5, no. The mode average (most frequently occurring mark) will not be 5, either, no. But that is an average of their ratings, not a redefining of definitions of each rating on the scale.

My thoughts exactly. Lua Lua and Bennett were very good as was Calderon

My thoughts: the game was anaemic, the blokes up front were inferior to the ones we have loaned out.It doesn't matter how fast and tricky LuaLua and Bennett are if we have no decent strikers.Barnes was only good at beating the pitch in frustration. Not good enough. The little bloke who came on up front was worse. There was no man of the match. It was all so DULL.The referee didn't even liven things up with dopey bookings/sendings off.We need a whole tranche of new players if automatic promotion is to be on.Nobody worth a 6 in this game; Brezovan gifted it to them at the death. He was probably not used to the pace of the game having spent most of the afternoon watching the game whilst not having to pay for a seat.

Even Tricky Trickster only finished 9th.A poor Saturday indeed.

Brezovan 5 - 1 good save, complete cock up for second goal.

Calderon 5 - Ok first half, pretty crap second.

Elphick 7 - Well-placed for goal, not a lot to do.

El-Abd 6 - Not a lot to do.

Hoyte 4 - Poor.

Bennett 8 - The only one who can be truly proud of himself IMO.

Navarro 5 - Average.

Dicker 5 - Average.

Crofts 7 - Pretty good game, lots of energy driving the midfield.

Lua Lua 6 - Charged around like a rhino on ecstasy pills. Pace undoubtedly an asset but needs to stop the one-man missions.

Barnes 5 - Isolated.

SUBS

Hendrie 7 - Great cross for goal.

Holroyd 6 - Good shot towards the end.

Do not agree as I thought that the ref was the best we have had this season by a country mile. Allowed the advantage and as soon as he realised there wasnt an advantage he blew up.

Dont think that he made a bad or wrong decision throughout the entire game. He watched the handbags with Price and El Abd and again took the correct approach and just spoke to both without a card for either.

Don't agree, Carlisle spent most of the game breaking up our play with niggly fouls that if he had clamped down on early on with a few bookings might have meant a more free flowing game.

Agree 100% with your marks here but how can you give Elphick a 7 when it was his stupid foul that gave away the Harte free kick. He is a liability who will always make stupid mistakes - even Poyet said this in his interview

"Agree 100% with your marks here but how can you give Elphick a 7..."

I guess you should rephrase that to "Agree 92.3% with your marks..."

Brezovan 4 - Nothing to do yet gave them the game.

Calderon 7 - Good game, great on the ball good going forward.

Elphick 6 - Took a ride on forward to concede free kick for there goal, recovered by scoring ours, distribution needs to improve.

El-Abd 6 - Solid, again distribution lacking, we need a new centre half in the summer.

Hoyte 5 - Obviously playing out of position dosent help.

Bennett 8 - Exciting decent performance my MOM

Navarro 6 - Much like Dicker quiet but ok.

Dicker 6 - See Navarro

Crofts 7 - Best of the 3 centrally

Lua Lua 8 - Exciting pacy, sign him up, with games he will be a real asset

Barnes 6 - Cant play upfront on his own needs a partner to see how good he is.

SUBS

Hendrie 7 - Came on at the right time, when we had plenty of ball and delivered.

Holroyd 6 - too little time tojudge

Brezovan 5 - made some good saves but shouldn't have come for the ball

Calderon 6 - good going forward not much to do at the back

Elphick 6 - was keen to push on which cost us the free kick for their first

El-Abd 5 - If he could head then Brezovan may not have come for the ball, I don't see how he is our best defender

Hoyte 5 - Carlise tried to exploit him all afternoon he did ok

Bennett 8 - Our most productive player MOM

Crofts 7 - solid game throughout always seemed to be in good positions

Dicker 6 - quiet game but didn't do too much wrong

Navarro 6 - Shot a lot and sat deep allowing the attacking players to play

LuaLua 7 - Alot of pace but no end product today he was fun to watch

Barnes 6 - seemed to struggle on his own, could do with a partner

SUBS

Hendrie 7 - set up the goal, probably starting next match

Holroyd 5 - did nothing to change the game, jury is still out
