Not deserving effort for marks apart from Bruno (7) & Buckley (7).
Do not know what game some of you were watching but Stephens was awful. He may have seen a lot of the ball but distribution was woeful and weak in the tackle. Pretty much all seemed to be going through the motions in a game that yet again was there for the taking.
Too much tippy tappy without any incisive defence splitting moves. Play too deep, blah, blah, blah.
Bad luck has nothing to do with it.

At the moment, yes. But at the moment I'm still frustrated by Ulloa's terrible first touch (way worse than anything I've seen from Obika) and his lack of desire to attack some sublime balls, and his inability to make something of Lopez's fantastic first half ball. But like I said at the end of that post, I may adjust my marks when I'm less frustrated. Rodriguez's mark is mostly because I didn't note anything particularly good or bad, and so he gets a 6 because I thought the team average today was a 6.

So a player who DOES ABSOLUTELY NOTHING gets TWO MORE POINTS than a player who SCORES??

Ulloa has scored in our last four games - his goal against Hull was superb. And you are saying his first touch "is worse than Obika", who seems to hardly be able to control the ball. And when he does get it, hasn't a clue what to do with it.

From what you're saying, you think Oscar should drop Leo and start with Obika next week? I swear that'll be one of the most ridiculous things I've ever read on here.

Some people around me were getting really angry about some of the "handball" shouts. It was ridiculous.

Fair enough, maybe you are sat near idiots :lolol:. FWIW, I think the ref had a pretty good game in all fairness.

TK 5 - For the first time ever he looked indecisive. Should have come for the ball several. times. Thought he could have caught the ball that Bruno put out for a corner
Bruno 8 - Good game
Ward 6.5 - Got forward, but got caught out a few times in the second half
Greer 5.5 - Seems to take ages in his distribution even when we are two goals down.
Upson 6 - Dreadful error for goal, but to be fair doesn't make many.
Ince 7 - Usual competent performance. Easy to forget he is a rookie.
Stephens 8 - My man of the match, but should have done better with his header and shot that hit the bar. Think he will become and important player for us.
Lopez 7 First half almost the old David. 5 Second half back to the new David
Orlandi 7 - Nice touches our best technical player. Needs to get back to full fitness
Rodriguez 6 - Pretty quiet and should have done better with header in the second half
Ulloa 6 - Not back to his best yet, but still scoring. Shame nobody else can.
Obika 6 - Better than last week, but not the answer
KLL 6 - Got the ball on his right foot three or four times expecting him to shoot. He then cut back on his left and got closed down
Buckley 7 - Better from him, but that dive was dreadful and if he had stayed on his feet may well have been able to get in a shot or got a legit penalty

Overall I thought we played well and made Wigan look ordinary. Can't believe we lost. I enjoy the way we play under Oscar and hopefully we can stay in there and press for that sixth spot.

Wow - mixed back on Stephens I thought he was the biggest positive from the game. He gets stuck in but has the finesse as well and pings the ball around nicely. Looking forward to seeing more of him.

On the other hand Rodriguez has been dreadful since he signed. He's not a winger. He's short, not that fast, not strong, and barely does anything. Cannot see why he's starting.

Some of the negativity on this thread is incredible. A frustrating game ruined by some poor officiating, time wasting tactics and an individual error BUT a terrific performance by us against one of the form sides in the division. We were by far the better side for the entire 90 minutes. Just one of those days.

Sigh.

Which player that I felt did nothing did I give two points more to? No one. I said Rodriguez didn't do anything notably bad or notably good. He had an average game, imo, so got what I thought was the average mark for this game.

The ratings are for this game. It doesn't matter what Ulloa did in the last four games when marking him for today's performance, it matters what he did in this game. In this game he was given a great chance from a delightful through ball from lopez, he messed it up. He was given a great chance to score from a great cross from Lualua that was on a plate, and he pulled his head away looking like he was scared it might hurt if the ball touched him. He had the ball put at his foot (from Orlandi, I believe) and he just held his foot where it was hoping the ball would hit it and go in. Every other time a ball was played to him it bounced off him. His first touch today was bad (and if we want to look at past games, he was roundly criticised for his first touch v Leeds, too, but again, this thread is about rating today's performance).

We gave Obika the same mark.

I have said absolutely nothing about what team Oscar should next pick. I would be surprised if Obika starts ahead of Ulloa in the next league game (less so if he starts on Monday, but that is because it is an FA cup game two days after this one and nothing to do with their relative performances today).

If you can't take your chances then you won't make the Top 6. Ulloa apart, the rest of the team doesn't score enough goals. It's been happening all season. This isn't bad luck on the field, it's a lack of top quality. The feeling still persists that if we go a goal down we're very unlikely to win.

Ulloa was again alone in the box with no forthcoming support, to give him a 4 is a joke! Stephens was shocking, must have been watching different game to me. He hit the bar from the penalty spot. Think I was tort at my first training session at primary school not to lean back when shooting. If your giving Ulloa 4 for his miss then Stephens should get a 3!

I have further explained my marking in other posts in this thread. But, I will say it wasn't one chance that Ulloa missed, it was at least three (two of which were inside the six yard box), it was also for his bad first touch throughout the game. Stephens slipped as he shot to hit the shot that hit the bar and the rest of his play was solid, so got an average mark.

I also apparently need to reiterate the point that currently my marks are coloured by my frustration.

I'm sorry but Stephens did not Ping the ball what so ever. He made one forward pass all game and probably ran once. On that occasion he slipped over from 10 yards and hit the bar.
As my brother said who is a life long Charlton fan. He will probably get about 10 games for Brighton and then you will realise he doesn't move and cannot find position.
