Michel 6 - Should have done better with the second Southend goal and he is still kicking it to Forster too much, when instructions seem to be to get it to Revell.

El Abd 6.5 - A fairly decent display, but made a couple of mistakes
Elphick 8 - Resolute display. Heartening to see his performance against Northampton was not a flash in the pan.
Butters 7 - not a foot wrong
Lynch 7.5 - Great display and looked to be brimming with confidence.

O'Callaghan 8 - Classy performance, apart from giving the ball away once. Sign him up!!
Hammond 6 - Poor, but saved himself with a goal.
Cox 5 - He has lost his touch at the moment.
Martot 5 - Not a great start and looked off the pace.

Forster 7.5 - Nicked a goal and then scored his own. A good display from the 'saviour'
Revell 6 - Worked hard and never gave up. Should have scored in first half injury time

Subs:

Bas 9 - Savage for England. Starting berth a must?
Robinson 7 - Bright and lively. Put the Southend defence under pressure and had them running scared.
Rents 6 - Some decent defending at the death, but looked a bit shaky to start with.

Michel 7 - looking fwd to seeing 1st goal on TV. must have got a nick
El Abd 6 - I like him better as a defender. He tackles better than he passes
Elphick 8 - excellent again
Butters 7 - was shocked when he was sacrificed for the sub. Usual tower of strength.
Lynch 6.5 - I would have given him a rest when Guy went off
Martot 6 - overshadowed by O'Callaghan's perfomance. Potential I hope
O'Callaghan 8 - Captain's performance
Hammond 5 - Not a captain's performance, but an invaluable winner at the death
Cox 6 - looked better than last week IMO
Forster 7 - ah, this is the bloke we've been waiting to see. Shouldn't have to play on his own up front though
Revell 7 - I like his workrate

Bas 10 - Well worth a TEN. injected enthusiasm, skill and the killer touch. Made the difference. Won the game.
Robinson 7 - The best I've seen him for ages.
Rents 6 - Did what was asked. Mature performance in the last 4 mins when Sarfend threw the sink

PS Referee 2 - Surely it is the job of the 4th official to check to see if O'Callaghan and Elphick are 'blood free' and ready to come on. As opposed to keeping us playing with ten men for much longer than it should be? ???

agree totally - we may have won, but we were far far from convincing

kuipers - 6. should of done better with the goal, dealt with crosses well
el-abd - 4. ball rolling under foot was a classic piece of control. his days of starting could be numbered when whing comes back
butters - 6. solid as usual
elphick - 7. early contender for player of the season. really impressed again
lynch - 6. solid at left back. will need time to get back into it
cox - 4. little or no effect bar a few floated balls in
o'callaghan - 6. will need games to get fit. midfield looked so much more balanced with creativity and not an oaf in there
froggy - 6. see above
hammond - 4. did nothing bar his goal. hopefully just a blip
revell - 5. won some headers
forster - 6. very quiet game, but did what he is paid to do in the end

savage - 8. superb
robinson - 6. another impact player off the bench, who had a slight impact
rents - 5. strange decision when losing to bring on a defender, but in the end worked out

Have to agree ...I'm not a Jake fan ..far from it ..but the lad was very good ...didnt bottle any tackles...caused problems..keep it up ...far better than recent performances from Cox

Indeed, seemed to have actually grown some balls over the summer. Will be a must start if he keeps them.

El Abd 4 (not a defender and worried me)

Are you on a wind up? Months of shit El-Abd performances in midfield, and thousands of "not a midfielder" comments on player ratings threads later.....yet you still claim he's not a defender!:lolol:

Raints:

Kuipers - 5 - SHOCKING for the goal, didn't have much to do otherwise
El-Abd - 5 - could have been a lot worse - they seemed to target him
Elphick - 7 - more of the same. encouraging
Butters - 7 - saved one certain goal, good positional play - no co-incidence that we concede with their first attack after he came off
Lynch - 7 - classy on the ball
Martot - 6 - some nice touches, some iffy ones
O'Callaghan - 8 - thought he was an attacking player? Either way, he was very good, strong tackler, good passer, good control
Hammond - 6 - below par, crucial goal though
Cox - 4- toilet
Forster - 7 - crap for 70 minutes....
Revell - 6 - headless chicken. Has the man actually got a footballing brain of any sort? Should have scored

Rents - 6 - 2 crap corners, one BRILLIANT one
Robinson - 7- lively, pacey, and fearless
Savage - 9 - Turned the game on it's head. Outstanding:bowdown::bowdown:

Kuipers was unsighted as the ball came through about 15 pairs of legs. No keeper could have stopped that.

Kuipers was unsighted as the ball came through about 15 pairs of legs. No keeper could have stopped that.

Not sure about that I thought he actually took his eye off the ball, seemed to run across the goal from one post to another and was in mid harangue when he suddenly realised an innocuous grasscutter had evaded about 20 pairs of legs and went into the middle of the goal with him to far too the right.

Surprised nobody picked up on the fact that Elphick let his man get in front of him for the second, he was certainly having a go at himself for it in the immediate aftermath.
