Far be it for me to repeat myself but I just don't understand what fans want from this team.

Surely you're able to look at what we had.
Look at what we've got (with predominantly the same players)

Then think 'feck me this is fantastic'.

Why the need for a critical eye?

Certainly not now (as someone else wrote last night) not 6 months into a 6 year project.

The team are setting incredibly high standards for themselves, each other and us and are managing to match or even surpass those each game.

Because there's always space to improve? Because this is a fans chat room?

Apart from a very small number of posters (who have, as I understand, been called out on this), there's universal recognition, that this is the best Brighton team playing the best football in living memory. That doesn't mean you can't sit in a pub after a game, or behind a computer and say for example, "i'd prefer player x to be playing than player y" or "I'd like us to sign player z to improve the squad".

Playing well doesn't mean there no room for anything other than myopic sycophancy. We're not supporting the North Korean government. This is football. If you play it professionally, you'll be scrutinised, at the time and after the game,

Is it really predominantly the same players though? Mooy, Trossard, Maupay, Webster , and also Connoly Alzate even Burn were not really in the first team last year

Montoya is a player that frustrates me from time to time but last night he was fantastic. It was a Brunoesque style performance and if Bruno had put that performance in, we would all be purring over it. So proud of the whole team last night. The table might not show it, but we know it, they know it, Roy knows it and the greater footballing World knows it, we are streets ahead of Palace. Potter is a genius. By far the best Brighton team of all time.

one major difference is that Bruno would have got to the goal line more and crossed the ball.... montoya's performance was good but I can't understand why he does not get to the wing more.

Ah now that might be the problem.

I was always TeamSensibleSoccer and by christ we're playing a top quality version of Sensi right now, hence my fingers in ears lalala attitude to all criticism.

Montoya has a choppy/staccato running style that appears to see him arriving at the ball (point of impact) having to slightly adjust his feet. Of course this is very different to Bruno who was (is) a sublimely smooth/gifted footballer. I bet Bruno would lose his non-existent hair (again) to have played under Potter in his prime. Would’ve probably got Into double figures.

All 8 apart from Propper and Maupay 9. We didn’t miss Stephens at all the midfield were all excellent.

No we didn’t at all and I really hope we stick with this midfield at the weekend.

I couldn’t understand why people were so worried about Stephens not playing the Palace game. We were also better without him when he didn’t play last season including the home win against Palace when Bissouma was also superb. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that his two best performances for us have come when Stephens is not there.

Brighton
Ryan - 7 - Excellent distribution, no chance with the goal
Montoya - 7 - Bit of a flaky start but then produced one of his best recent performances. Have to mark him down a bit for being the player goosed for the winner and not completing what was a defence splitting pass from Propper.
Burn - 7 - Had a lot of the ball and is doing really well bearing in mind he's a centre back.
Dunk - 7 - Very good apart from having two excellent heading opportunities go astray.
Webster - 7 - Improved
Propper - 8 - MOM
Bissouma - 8 - Very good especially as he hasn't had that much gametime
Mooy - 7
Gross - 7
Trossard - 6 - Excellent contribution to the goal and always a threat but passing was awry a lot
Maupay - 8 - Improving fast

Subs a little late on to mark

Thought GP could have changed it earlier and maybe avoided the equaliser. The signs were there in abundance that we had tired.

When will refs stop falling for Zaha's dives? TV showed them in their embarrassing glory.

Not sure it was a penalty as some angles made it look like there was no contact.

Yesterday's football was excellent and if potter can hold this group of players together there will be more to come.

Agree with most of the player ratings here and thought Montoya in particular was excellent.

I'd have to give Potter a 7. I'm absolutely a Potter convert now and for 70 minutes of the game we were absolutely outstanding. The fact that Palace had a five minute spell of pressure didn't concern me - they had to attack at some point. However, whether it's Potter's or an individual error, not having Zaha double-marked for the goal, in THAT position where he is always so deadly for Palace, was a serious oversight. After that, I felt his use of substitutes was rather bizarre. We could have done with Murray for the last 10, considering that Palace were pressuring us and we were resorting to long clearances. We ended the game with 6 natural defenders on the pitch. In some ways it was beautifully bizarre and I like the unorthodoxy of it, in others I was shouting for a bit of conventionality!

We were excellent for most of the game though, enjoyable to watch and a point at Selhurst is not to be sneered at.

Bit harsh on Potter. Zaha was double, even triple marked for most of the match and was almost totally ineffective up to the goal, which was pretty exceptional.

Thought the subs were a bit strange though and probably too late. Agree with another post that Murray would have been a good option towards the end as we tired and started playing long into the box.

Otherwise a fantastic display from the whole team. Played them off the park for 70 minutes and who’d have thought that we’d be getting 70% possession away from home anywhere!?

This time last season we were struggling to get 40/50% possession even at home .....

If we continue to play like that then our top ten ambitions will become a reality very quickly.

More goals in the many spells when we dominate possession.

....Although there are obviously loads of positives

I think Jamie Carragher would agree with you, after what he said on Sky last night.:albion2:

I honesty think it was 10 all round for 70 mins then some players started to tire and GP probably should have changed a couple of players Bossuma was dead on his feet leaving Propper having to do the work of two in midfield as such I think GP who also gets 10 for 70 mins then drops to 6 for not spotting this earlier

Irrespective of how dominant a team is, more goals is easier said than done.
If that weren't the case 5, 6 up to 9 goals would be the norm, in this division with such a massive gulf in class.
Remember Duffy's 5 goals last season was league leading last season.
Sure Dunk should have matched that in the Liverpool and palace games alone thus proving how difficult it is.

All of that with the backdrop of the Albion only having 2 strikers, one of which is injured.

The only similarity I can detect between last season and this is the goalscoring. Loads from one main striker, a smattering from centre backs, very little from wingers or midfielders. A wider range of goalscorers is going to be key to turning our dominant performances into wins

I agree we're a centre forward light
