Gonzalez 6: Little to do, but did the basics well enough
Calderon 6: Not stretched defensively, got into opposing half regularly
Mattocks 7: Best of the loan players this season, would be good to sign IMO.
Dunk 7: Couple of excellent saving tackles, booked again though.
El Abd 6: Solid
Dicker 5: Tidy but one paced
Bridcutt 7.5: Everywhere as usual
Vicente 7: Mixed sublime moments, such as dancing past four defenders, with some poor dead ball deliveries and a bit of petulance.
Buckley 6: Like a hopeful date that ends up wanking into a crusty sock, promised more than it delivered.
Barnes 5: Had our best chances but nothing on target
CMS 3: Feel sorry for him, won nothing in air, gave ball away when in possession and looks short of confidence, pace and ability at present.

subs

Navarro 6: Played it short and square
Assulin 4: Fell over more times than Norman Wisdom, God knows what studs he had in today.

Gonzalez....Saved when he was called upon, distributed ok but a little slow at first.
Mattock .....Let the forward moves break down too much today, more so in the second half. Defended ok and that after all is his main job.
AEA ..............Ball distribution not his best today, when pushing and hustling players please don't do it in our penalty area. Played his part in keeping a clean sheet.
Dunk............Some very good distribution today, 4 passes of note to Buckley!! 1 st half goal scoring tackle well executed. Thanks ref for not showing a red!!! Looked like with his ribs injury maybe could have benefited coming off with 30 mins to go? Hard to.breath and painkillers wearing off, he took these on the pitch whilst warming up!!!
Calde.......Part of a back five that kept a clean sheet, looked good going forward and linked well with Vicente. A couple of crosses could have been delivered earlier.

Defence..........8.5/10

Buckley .......A couple of good runs down the wing in the first half, not his best today though. 5/10

Vicente .......Had some good link play and runs going forward. Did lose the ball too often and too easy today at times. 7/10

Dicker ........Had a good shot saved. Not instrumental enough in build up plays. 5/10

Bridcutt......Held the midfield and covered a lot of ground, making amends for other players failings today!! Well played 8/10

Barnes.......Noticed today he loves a tackle...full on all the time. Unfortunately him and cms looked miles apart today. 5/10

CMS..........Can he run around yes, has he got composure? Can he hold the ball up......not today!!! Bad day at the office so to speak. 3/10

Subs.......Not impressed

Ref....Thanks for keeping the red in.your pocket 8/10

Our fans 10/10 There fans....where were they? 2/10

Just a small add on, the staff by the players coach, have a word with yourselves. Sending our fans away from seeing our players, these fans have travelled hundreds of miles you f***** jobsworths. Just because you wanted to go home early........Barnsley FC you let our fans and your club down today.......Do not take a bow!!!!!

Gonzalez - 6. OK but not tested sufficiently today to assess whether he is the solid keeper we need
Mattock - 7. Would be happy to see him join us permanently.
Calderon - 7
Dunk - 6. Ref. was lenient otherwise it was an early bath for Lewis.
El-Abd - 7
Bridcutt - 8. Our MoM
Dicker - 6. Off the pace a number of times but could have redeemed this with a goal if his shot hadn't been close to the keeper
Vicente - 8. Not his best, looked a bit jaded (but then he probably never expected a cold and blustery Costa del Barnsley to be on his CV). A 5 minute spell first half seemed to fire him up for a mazy dribble into their box for our best move. A few other flashes of brilliance to remind us of his rare talent.
Barnes - 6. Had a bit of a mare first 25 mins when it seemed every touch let him down but then probably had our two best chances, flashed a shot over from about 10 yards and a more difficult header that went wide. Bit more involved 2nd half but no outcome.
Buckley - 6. Quiet early on but suddenly found he had the beating of his man and sent in several crosses. 2nd half he got closed down more so was not surprised to see him subbed.
CMS - 6. Usual workrate but his only half chance was late on when Barnes flicked on a near post header that CMS chested down but the defender cleared just as he was about to pull the trigger.

Assulin - 5. Another cameo with pretty skills but little end product. Had a problem staying on his feet (wrong studs?). Not enough evidence that he is what we need.
Navarro - 6.

To summarise, a very end of term feel to this game. Great effort by the fans. On the pitch The Albion looked promising but our tendency to try walk the ball into the Barnsley box 2nd half was too easily repulsed. Late on Barnsley were in the ascendent and could have nicked it themselves. Had a similar rather frustrating feel to other recent away games at Doncaster and Forest when we should have taken the points off average opposition but never imposed ourselves - and inspite of having Vicente.

It is only fair to mark Gus too as it is his team selection and tactics: I think a 6 or maybe a 7 is fair for today's game. Reflecting on the season as a whole I feel Gus warrants an 8 or 9 for securing a solid 10th place in the Championship this season. It is a tad disappointing that with the talent at his disposal he did not look to impose ourselves more on lesser teams like Barnsley. He will need to address that if we truly aspire to being promotion contenders. But then he is learning his trade at this level. It might be tempting to feel a bit flat right now, especially compared to the euphoria this time last year but consolidation in the league and a couple of impressive cup runs will do for me. Next season will be an interesting challenge, especially if we can unearth another Vicente or two.

Not sure I would give Assulin any points for turning up in ice skates. What a f***ing waste of time putting him on if he can't make any turns or quick moves without slipping over.

Why doesn't anyone have a shot?

Gonzalez - 7, vast improvement over the last game, caught almost everything that came near him, although never really under a lot of pressure, made a couple of decent saves and distribution was good. Only one horrible attempt at a double punch which didn't get anywhere near the ball.

El-Abd - 6 not quite up to his usual best.

Dunk - 6 some important tackles and interceptions but one very rash one, couldn't see that clearly as it was up the other end but may have been lucky to only get a yellow.

Calderon - 7 pretty solid and some great raiding down the wing.

Mattock - 6 average, didn't have much to do or I just didn't notice much anyway.

Bridcutt - 8 all over the pitch, great tackling, interceptions and looked generally very effective again.

Dicker - 5 just doesn't look good enough.

Vicente - 7 quite poor by his standards, went down easier than normal, didn't seem as strong, maybe the fans singing his name about a dozen times during the game put him off for some reason, too much pressure, thinking about a move, whatever, not one of his better games.

Buckley - 6 another one of those games when he goes missing for most of it after a couple of decent runs, poor crossing more often than not.

Barnes - 6 gets in useful positions, seemed indecisive though, or just too slow, another very mixed bag.

CMS - 6 much like Barnes, gets in decent positions, but yet again no one plays the early ball so he has to change the direction/angle of his runs or hold them up, team and tactics still hamstringing him but when he does have the ball at his feet can't seem to manufacture an opportunity to have a shot. Fingers crossed for next season - COME ON MACKER!

Subs - Navarro - 7 better than Dicker and more involved than Buckley
Assulin - 0 came on, slipped a lot. I was f***ing mad. May as well of been playing with 10 men and Gully.

Our fans were brilliant as always, apart from the twat who almost pushed a girl down the steps of an aisle at the final whistle as he went to get on the pitch, granted she and her dad were pretty stupid to be standing there especially as people's intentions were made clear by chanting "On the pitch" several times though :ffsparr:

Great turn out, 3 and a half thousand or something? Although I don't really like or join in with the "I wanna go home chant". Their fans were pretty quiet, only noise I really noticed was to keep booing Caldey when he touched the ball in the second half and a drum or maybe they were just banging on the stand's cladding.

I liked the ground though, stands had a nice steep incline so about 5 rows back it's like being at the back of the Amex north stand. £3 to park in a field and the stewards were friendly.

Probably misheard the northern accent of the guy announcing the away fan numbers, just seen Poyets quote "After the first 45 minutes, I thought the best thing was that there were only another 45 minutes to go." rather harsh!

Just goes to show how easy some people are to satisfy. With a score like that, against Barnsley, we should have walked an easy win. How could CMS get marked so high? He simply did nothing the whole match!
