Agree with that. All solid and hard working.

I didn't say that. I didn't think he looked that poor

I know you didn't but IMHO I though Dan had a very poor game today - still he will learn

I thouht Hammond had an absolute stormer today. His distribution was top drawer; often looking for a creative pass, not just a 'keep possession' pass.

Oatway (another big slice of humble pie being eaten here) had another good game. We've now got real competition for the central midfield places, which is very good news.

One last point, I though Hart looked up for it when he came on. A real pain in the arse for the Leeds defence.

Kuipers - 7 - handling excellent, kicking far better, 1 good save.
El Abd - 7 - very solid, only caught out once.
Harding - 6 - not so good, kept putting the ball into touch, Kelly went past him too often.
Butters - 8 - very solid, great to have him back, cleared up the danger well on a good number of occasions.
Hinshelwood - 8 - good as Butters, though caught out occasionally, England call up fully deserved.
Did think the central defenders were caught out a bit against Deane, though fortunately he missed a couple of sitters.
Carpenter - 6 - not at his best, though you have to remember he is only just back. Passing poor, though better when Oatway went off.
Oatway - 7 - excellent till injured, tacking brilliantly. Is the injury a bad one?
Hammond - 9 - his best game for the Albion by far, especially once he moved in to central midfield after Oatway had to be substituted. Could he stand in as a striker at Sunderland. He is tall enough.
Currie - 6 - off form today, crossing poor, and bad miss. Good free kick though.
Virgo - 8 - excellent. Worried the Leeds defence throughout and won a good number of balls in the air despite the height of their defenders.
Knight - 8 - seems to have got his desire back. The substitution at Crewe must have given him a kick up the backside.
Hart - 7 - great substitute for Oatway. Really worried the Leeds defence. I thought we were going to see him flying down the right wing and getting in crosses again. Hope he comes back more again.

Crowd - 8 - best it's been at Withdean for some while, keeping up with Leeds's singing throughout the game.

Referee - 6 - Mr Beeby was not as good as he was in the play off, some of his decisions were quite pernickety, though I thought the Leeds players deserved their sendings off, as some of the tackles were extremely dirty.

One good point is that Hammond also had a chance to score, which would probably whet anyone's appetite for their next game.

A great team performance that was solid rather than spectacular. I thought that Butters and Hinsh were superb.
