Thunder Bolt

Silly old bat
Another thread with people moaning about Dicker. He may not be consistent but he was definitely not the worst midfielder today. No one seems to mentipn Bridcutt lost the ball 3 times in the space of 2mins in the second half. Some people are far too critical of him when in the first half he was absolutely superb. I don't know what game some people are watching sometimes.

It's fashionable to complain about Dicker at the moment on here, when, in fact, we missed him when Navarro came on. As for those who are criticising Painter today, words fail me.

Whoever gives Dicker a 6 on today's performance is an idiot. An absolute idiot. Watch our first goal - he set Noone away one on one with a defender with a first time pass that few others on that pitch would have seen let alone make. He's also good in the air and would have been a lot more useful defending those late corners that Navarro. Dicker is integral to how we play so give him a break. It's good we will have Harley too as we will need at least one of thiose two playing if we are to hold our own againsgt the better teams.

He MAY be integral to the way we played, but the bottom line is although he played reasonably well in the first half, he was poor in the second. Gus did not withdraw him for tactical reasons, he was taken off as he had run out of steam and was being outplayed. Dicker was excellent at Pompey and I remain a fan of his overall.

Harley may even complement Dicker, so I do not think it is a 'given', that he will replace him, we will have to see.

But all the midfield were pretty poor in the second half! As I've mentioned before Vincelot went missing and Bridcutt had a 5-10 minute spell where he gave it away. We sat too deep not complementing any of our midfielders' skills.

Bridcutt seems to be our Claud Makelele - immense at winning the ball and playing the simple ball, QUICKLY. A rare talent.

Dicker, in spite of the recent jibes, was good, and solid. I was being particularly critical and observant of him all game, however he gave the ball away just once. Not bad for a central midfielder, eh?

Navarro though, seriously? What is his purpose? What's he supposed to be? Completely ineffective.

I dont understand why Gus took Dicker off. I'd rather have taken Barnes off for KLL as opposed to Noone and kept Dicker on - we'd have had more players who can keep the ball up front (and away from them).

Seriously gutted we let the points slip...should have had a definite pen and good chances from 2 KLL crosses (and they only had 2 real chances all game)...however, I'll take 10 from 12. Time to skittle over Peterborough....hoping they've got no more goals in them after tonight's mauling of Ipswich.

I thought Vincelot was class today. Me and my mates really rate him. I think a few more games and he'll be one of our bests players!

Like.

He was ORGASMIC in the first half, and good in the second half though he didn't get on the ball so much to play his awesome passes.

Man of the match imo has to be Noone,he ran rings round their backs and we were cruising...Blackpool came right back in it after Nooney went off. KLL looked a half yard short, probably not match fit,we all know what he can do. Mr (I run on ever ready batteries) CMS puts in so much effort that you've got to love him that besides his goal scoring.KP made the difference for Blackpool.

Another great team performance.

Mr consistency 7/10 Marcus painter was 5/10 today he was our poorest player unfortunately.

Dunk was excellent as was bridcutt as usual. Dicker was excellent don't see how he can be criticised today. CMS worked his nut sack off and noone was our 2nd best player behind Calderon who was immense from start to finish definitely MOM in my opinion.

Ankergren 7 - commanded his area a bit better coming for a couple of crosses, but distribution was a bit hit-and-miss
Painter 6 - weak link today in the back 4, looked terrified of their right winger (Matt Phillips?) in the first half, but more comfortable after the break
Calderon 8 - bombarded forward as the game wore on, got in a couple of vital challenges tracking back, best game this season for him
Greer 7 - very steady at the back as always, took one for the team with the yellow as they counter attacked
Dunk 7 - won so much in the air, like Elphick in that respect, but does dive into challenges, will get suspended sooner rather than later
Dicker 7 - still the odd misplaced pass but his vision is superb and does turn out of trouble well
Bridcutt 9 - MOM for me, absolutely owned that game, can't remember him misplacing a single pass, won tackles, headers, man is a genius
Vincelot 8 - great shift, could turn out to be a hell of a bargain
Noone 8 - skinned/nutmegged their full-back over and over, made him look very silly. Beautiful ball for CMS. Got a bit knackered.
Barnes 7 - worked very hard mostly on the right flank and seems to have bulked up too, holds it up better than last year
Mackail-Smith 8 - energiser bunny, never gave the Blackpool defence a moment's peace, took the goal really clinically

Navarro 6 - not really enough time to make an impact, did break it up well a couple of times
LuaLua 6 - bit quiet, we didn't really get him on the ball enough, but won a few free kicks getting hacked as he tried to run at the right back.

FRUIT OF THE BLOOM
Vincelot is a machine in midfield for work rate, and people think CMS works hard....watch this guy closely he never stops. And is also terrific on the air, when Harley gets in the side and our set peices improve Vincelot will score many a goal for us

Who was the official MoM?

CMS popped up on the screen, but I couldn't see anything saying explicitly that it was him!

Personally i thought Dicker was pretty much perfectly back on form. He consistently outwitted his self-proclaimed superiors and his spreading of play was mindfully artistic. His substitution seemed entirely tactical as Gus maybe wrongly wanted us to hang on to our lead. Navarro does not fill me with confidence, and his introduction failed to plug the gaps in defence that began to appear when Blackpool made their three changes and began to energetically bombard. I can't honestly criticise the performance though as at times i was awestruck all over again. The spell after we scored and began to stroke the ball around with a profound elegance had me aquiver with delight. It was just a shame that perhaps we went to sleep. I know i did as i completely missed their first retaliation so lost in "we're the northstand, we're the northstand..."eries was i. I shrugged and believed it was a momentary blip. We brought on LuaLua to begin to play more on the break, and that young man has the power to intimidate any fullback simply with possibility. They backed off and with a stepover he found space to spin a ball over betwixt keeper and defence. If we'd put any of those away then we'd have rocked home safely. Next time though. Next time.
The lessons hopefully learnt from yesterday were as follows. We can and must continue to play the beautiful game with a grandiose confidence that any concession mustn't divet. That we are who we are and should keep enjoying being just that, win, lose or draw. That mistakes will be made and obviously more likely to be punished in this more competitive league, so to keep concentration levels at a professional and steady high, but not feel a failure if one balls-up happens to bring about a temporary demise. So therefore to remain rock-solid as a team and know that we are on the right track.
They aren't lessons at all really are they, but i felt a certain hangover/adrenalin-fuelled pride in our achievements and desperately want our style to swipe opponents to the floor.
Anyway, i thought we played really well.

Didn't feel Bridcutt was. I felt that Dicker tired hence the subsitution and neither him or Vincelot were the same force they were in the first. My friends and I watched Dicker for a couple of mins, midway through the second and he'd definitely gone, players were jogging by him and he wasn't picking anyone up, within moments he'd been withdrawn. To be fair on Dicker though, he may have picked up an injury - hope not.

I think Gus has an interesting selection dilema when everyone is fit.

Looks like it was Navarro's job to pick up Phillips for second Blackpool goal. Bridcutt has a right go at him after, don't think Gus will be too pleased either as I'd have thought that was the role he was brought on for at 2-1

Saw the goals on SSN and you could see Bridcutt absolutely raging after Phillips 2nd goal.Whoever was meant to be marking him was nowhere to be seen.

If you watch again Navarro is about 7 or 8 yards away, credit to Phillips for peeling off, but I think Navarros opportunities as a sub may come along a little less frequently when players are back to full fitness / if the odd signing is made.
