Play-off money

Ben's Grandad has alleged deep down on another thread that our share of the play-off final money has been withheld by the Football League due to possible financial irregularities - i.e. they want to look at our accounts first.

Irrespective of the size of the pay-out, is there any truth to this or just another unsubstantiated rumour?

The arse end of Hangleton
Until BG is prepared to back up all or any of his allegations with evidence or named sources I suggest it's treated as bullshit from a shit stirrer ! :glare:

Well he's one of three things:

1 - The successor that he himself was looking for to Hart, Baine and Samrah. He wants to expose corruption and/or financial impropriety in the club.

2 - Like his friend Greg Stanley he's a easily-led, bullshitting simpleton.

3 - He's a wilful liar who is intent on undermining the club.

I'm not sure what he is, my guess is 2 but I could be wrong.

well, I'm sure our favourite albion friendly hack will find this interesting even if most people seem to be unwilling to discuss it.

Having read a number of speculative reasons as to why DK did not appear on Harty's show last w/e, the fact that this question might have been posed, if their is a grain of truth, would be the most likely reason.

As I posted on another thread....

"Is Ben's Grandad the same guy who was wittering away on Harty's phone-in on Saturday about the Albion not having had all of the Cardiff money yet?

Another rumour heard from "a man in the pub".

If I was a Nimby, a Dick Knight hater or a Palace fan, this pub seems like a good place to "divide and conquer".

My view is that we are now very very close to achieving Falmer. At this point the Albion becomes a very attractive financial proposition to local businessmen.

Trouble is, many of these local businessmen also have huge egos that demand that they are also in charge of the club in a "Madjeski/Mandaric" stylee.

Hence the increase in attempts to derail Dick Knight at the final hour - after he's sweated blood for almost a decade - and claim the club for themselves."

If someone with a load of cash came in and swept Knight aside in order to build the stadium I wouldn;t give a toss to be honest. If it's just a matter of bragging rights we the fans KNOW who has put all the work in and saved the club anyway.

Ok, mystery solved. BensGrandad's informant was 'an elderly gentleman from the Lincolnshire FA' The information was given to BG during a chance conversation in a pub in Market Raisen. BG hadn't met the man before but the other locals vouched for him.

So there you have it. The club's finances are known in great detail to minor officials from remote County FA's. Not quite in the Samrah class for investigate accounting but there you go. There's no smoke without fire (to quote BG) so if one complete stranger says one piece of gossip by inference it must be true.

We asked him to give some more detail about his source and he did. This guy from the Lincs FA probably has heard something about money from the playoffs - and given that almost everything was done with cash I don't doubt that there were issues with the accounting.

In fact there was one area that I'm sure led to 'irregularities' - the way that reduced-price tickets were issued. On the day of the match I heard of several people that purchased kids tickets and managed to remove the markings (in felt-tip pen) before attending the game. If they then had a count-up after the match they wouldn't have been able to reconcile the fact that there were more adults tickets handed in than sold.

Without knowing what the irregularity was nobody can comment on the scale - and it would be quite like the FA to get upset about the loss of £1000. This is probably something about nothing.

I think the cash has been witheld due to Dick Knight having too big an ego. Football League regulations prevent the full sum being settled until this is rectified.

I also sit near Ben's Grandad and you would have to admit that he is entertaining!! To be fair he does know more about football/tactical matters than most albion fans - e.g his assessment of Danny Cullip is a bit more accurate than the hype you hear from most fans. I think he may have held a senior position on the Surrey FA and scouted for various clubs in the past.
