Just to add - CS Lewis wrote a book called The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Tolkien wrote the Lord of the Rings both of which are acclaimed to be classics.

Roald Dahl also wrote children's books which were enjoyed by adults. Kids books don't have to be dumbed down because they are kids books.

Aren't the films rated 12A? So wouldn't really class them as kids books as such. More aimed at the family.

If it gets teenagers into reading and fueling there desire for well written adult books in a few years time, then it can only be better everyone as far as i can see.

I will eventually read it once it comes out in paperback, seeing that i read the first one when it came out all them years ago

I've never read Potter and don't intend to either, but what I want to know is....

What is all the fuss about? How can this book be SO MUCH better than all the others out there? Media-hype?

Should have bought it in Asda, it was only a fiver!

I haven't bought it. As Asda is quite a way from our house then we wouldn't have saved anything anyway because of petrol costs.
Morrisons were selling it for £4.99.

in fact 4 and 5(so far) are more "adult" (serious issues, dark storylines etc) then most "adult" books i've read!

In my defence, I was left unsupervised.

Bought it from ASDA for a fiver Saturday morning (about midday) and finished it yesterday (Sunday afternoon). I don't think any of the books are particularly great works of fiction but they're good stories.

One of the great things about them though is they've 'grown up' with their readers. My daughter at 10 was exactly one year younger than Harry Potter when the first book came out in 1997 (her birthday is also 31st July). She liked it because it was about "A boy who's a wizard and who goes to a special magic school." She's now almost 20. She's just finished reading her copy and now she's saying things like: "I like the way with the character of Snape you have the essential dichotomy of Good v Evil that exists in all humans and the ending showed the Rowling is actually quite optimistic about the human condition and that when faced with a choice most people do the right thing. The ending was a bit 'paint-by-numbers' though."
