I have not read through the whole thread so someone else may have pointed this out already. Brighton licensing laws always make all night clubs and standing venues use plastic glasses and have done for at least five years (the period I have worked in the trade). Also the licensing provisions allow for any venue that has a violence problem to be forced to do the same. This is a complete non story. As licensing issues are controlled by local councils not the government.

That's bollocks easy, plastic's an insulator.

I still vote for glass though.

Ah but you are forgetting the important aspect of mouth feel. Basically if you take two bottles out of a fridge, one glass and one plastic, the glass one will always feel colder although they are both obviously the same temperature.

Bloody hate plastic, the beer always goes WARM.

Couldn't agree more. Also, when it comes to carrying over a round of three or four pints in plastic tumblers, I find it nigh on impossible to get a good grip of them, and often end up spilling at least one of the pints. I'm better with proper glasses, honest.

I HATE it when you see birds drinking a pint!

cans are the best compromise, cold, fresh, not a lot of mess etc etc etc, however I only wanna pay a quid for em though.
I'll always vote for glass, I hate cheap plastic cups(cricket) or more durable ones that always taste of washing up liquid (clubs)
as always though the problem is not with what people are drinking out of, the people themselves, someone mentioned Glastonbury, in the same token what kind of fuckwit smashes a glass bottle on the beach like they did at 'that' Fatboy Slim gig?
