This season there are 7 teams on less than 1 point per game.
Not sure if this signifies that they are unusually crap or that the top teams have become so dominant, there's less points to go around for the rest. 2015 and 2016 for example had a much more even spread across the league.
It's not binary - one is function of the other. The bottom teams appear more crap because the top 5.5 (let's include 0.5 Man U for the moment) beat them nearly all the time; leaves 26 fixtures to get points from.

Champions League. But rather artificial to think that any team will win all 26 games against non top 6 while losing all 12 against them. The point is really a simple one: the widening disparity of the top teams against the bottom makes the bottom teams look more crap than they might have done when the gap was narrower.
