Met my wife there 46 years ago and still together.
Met my first wife opposite there in 77. Haven't seen her for 38 years

My specialist subject - The Hungry Years
I used to drink Colt 45, it was so bloody cold my hands use to freeze the glass.
As part of the late licence, they gave you a pie, but no one wanted to eat them, so it turned into a pie fight across the dance floor!
The Hungry Years was great - I can't say that it was my sort of music but the place was just so relaxed with such a great atmosphere that it was impossible not to like it. It was the favourite haunt of my first girlfriend, who really did have the afghan coat, but smelling of magnolia rather than patchouli - any time I smell magnolia, it bring backs memories of her (and we split up 43 years ago).
Me too. Coming in from Portslade, number 49s were blue and number 2s (oh I say, Madam) were green.

I do remember the Sea House, I’m sure it closed down in the 80s and was empty for ages, I’m not sure what is there now. I’ve seen a photo of a large group of Stoke fans outside the pub, probably early 80s.
I didn’t know why the Pav Tav was called Shades to a few years back, I was walking up Steine Lane behind the pub and noticed ‘Shades Bar’ not sure if it was on the window or a sign above a door.
Most people I knew just called the pub Shades in the 80s.

Exactly!
There's even a yellow car in the first shot FFS! What's going on there then.
Definitely went to some pubs more than others.
Living near Lewes Rd Brighton I didn’t always go into the Town centre, some weekends we would just drink locally, also went to the Hare and Hounds at Preston Circus every Friday for a while around 83-84.
Swifts, Smugglers and Coasters are the only places I remember going regularly with mates on Fridays in the 80s.
Occasionally went to Shades, I can’t remember where Fagans was TBH and I can only remember Frock and Jacket being mentioned in the early 90s and I never went there.
1976.
That was the year I left school and started drinking properly, at 16 we were turfed out of some pubs, but got away with it in others.
Later came the Hungry Years with affore mentioned pie fights.
They also gave us peas, which we duty catapulted everywhere with the plastic forks supplied.
I moved to a small flat in Devonshire Place and the whole of the town centre became my local.
Ha, we're the same age as I also left school [Longhill] in 1976 - the long hot summer ....
Never went in the "Years" I was more a [oh what was it called before Busby's - on the sea-front [not Jenkinsons] but part of the Top Rank [not the Suite either]
Happy days and marvellous scenes
Metro before renamed Busby's.
I thought it was called the Revolution.
Went down the stairs and under Jenkinsons
We might both be correct?
Tramps to Revolution to Metro to Busbys.

If my memory is correct you are a year older than me. The Rev was one of my favourite drinking places in the 70s. We must have crossed paths in there, hopefully peacefullyIn my yoof I spent a lot of time down the 'Rev'
