Definitely glad I posted it now.
I was showing my 18 year old son the photos and I mentioned West Street with building societies, the famous Bosun pub is also in the photo, I think it had changed names when I first started going drinking.
Where I grew up in Brighton we had a choice of different bus companies to use to go to and from the town centre.

Carpenters Arms.

I remember my mum buying one of those stupid window cleaners - used it in our flat and the outside half dropped off immediately never to be seen again.

I was twenty years old and been working with my dad for just over two years.
Little did I know I had another forty two years of plumbing and heating to go

I used to drink Colt 45, it was so bloody cold my hands use to freeze the glass.
As part of the late licence, they gave you a pie, but no one wanted to eat them, so it turned into a pie fight across the dance floor!

Me too. Coming in from Portslade, number 49s were blue and number 2s (oh I say, Madam) were green.

#BusNerd

Brighton Corporation (49s) and 2s were Southdown (I think).

The 49 came down my road in Southwick - yes, blue Brighton Corporation. The 2 went along Old Shoreham Road, the 37 along Manor Hall Road, and the 230 on the Coastroad - all green and cream Southdowns. My Uncle drove these for Southdown, but never let me get away without paying.....

First thing I thought of when browsing through. Absolutely rubbish!

Always thought the Fortune of War pub, on the beach bottom of West St, was as it is now. In the picture it is a small, one unit pub.

My favourite Brighton pub I think. I remember the sound system blowing up when they had a band there one night - bit concerned that the singer wasn't electrocuted. As for the Hungry Years - what a place!

Glass? We only got given plastic...and you really don't want to know how badly they were washed-up, when I worked behind the bar. ;)

I have a photo somewhere taken from that hot summer of 1976 of some of the lads outside the Bosun one Saturday or Sunday afternoon. The photo was given to me only a few years ago. If I can find it, big if, I will post it. I can only remember half the names from the faces of that photo. Old age I suppose.

I went to those two versions, not the Bosun, but I knew the name from an older brother.

Always very basic inside, a few bits of furniture nailed down, a reputation for fights.

I only remember going there when it was Nellie Peck, the back wall had a massive screen for music videos.

Coming from Ovingdean/Peacehaven/Newhaven, our natural pubs tour was Shades, finishing at Swifts, with a load of pubs or wine bars in between. Varying over the years, we did them all.

Probably just went to the Carpenters a couple of times to give it a go.

The Peck was never as good as the old Bosun was. Maybe because most of the old clientele drifted away.

I had a spell of going to Swifts on a Friday night, we were probably in there at the same time.
