James Callaghan and Dennis Healey were hardly "hard left". More social democrat than socialist.
Unfortunately they were not really running the Country in the late 1970's...

Jimmy Saville?
Why mention Thatcher in the thread title then? .

There's more police there than the entire English force these days. Not sure MG would have allowed the numbers to dwindle like they have
Which one is @PPF ?
I done a picket with the miners. OB were very robustly making full use of their truncheons.. ooh err madam
Not heard of them. Pizza delivery? The BBC, however is the word's best broadcasting organization. Fact.
Good pal of mine was OB during the strike. Absolutely the worst time of his career (apart from the massive amounts of overtime, obviously)
Edit - says his second worst was The Goldstone in the 70/80s
Good point, for all her faults, and she had many, I think if Mrs May had inherited some of her qualities then this country would be in a far better position than it currently is.
I'm sure there was much worse than the Goldstone. Most games it was a library.
It was until it started manipulating the news.
You mean the reportage of the updates from the Falklands? But what about Kate Adie? The beeb manipulated the news from day 1 (when Orwell worked for them, broadcasting propaganda to India). But I still think they are more transparent and balanced than any broadcaster. Name me any better.
Channel 4 news.
But that's not a whole channel providing a range of products: sport, news, music, current affairs, minority intrest coverge, etc. That's just one programme.
