However, if someone walked up to you, starting making factually inaccurate allegations, shouted you down when you tried to respond, told you to quit your job etc. then could you honestly say that you would keep cool, calm and collected?

No, but DK had already made a couple of rather patronising snidey comments to other callers before this. He does bring some of it on himself with his style. I'm not looking for a Saint to run my club and he doesn't have to be the kind of person I'd share a pint with but I do think he could show a bit more humility and professionalism. Professionalism is important to any organisation in how it is perceived. I used to work for the Dept for Work & Pensions and the abuse, lies, innuendo, racism and general bollocks I had to listen to was a daily occurence so excuse me if I'm not feeling too sorry for DK, his is an easy life in comparison.

I agree with you that he didn't cover himself with glory, but he was pissed off with the performance, it has cost the club a minimum of £50k, and if Mansfield get a plum draw it could be ten times that amount.

There was too much of the 'Big I am' from DK in my opinion, especially in how he signed Forster on the cheap etc, but we're losing focus on the key issues that were covered such as:

1 Falmer on course for August 2010
2. Prices for next season to be reviewed
3. New players being sought.
4. Yesterday was a shit performance.
5. Bas wanted to be highest paid player at the club. If DK was making this up then Bas can sue for slander no doubt.

Worthing
But that's the point - for me, it WAS proportionate.

The caller bloke was talking shit, and to cut through the crap, Dick said 'get the guy off'. I suspect he wanted to answer serious questions. I wanted him to answer some serious questions, didn't you? I think that's fair enough. I would probably do the same - and I suspect you might as well. Well, maybe not... Who knows?

His displeasure didn't start at the beginning of the phone-in, it started years ago when people effectively started calling him a liar and a thief.

With regards to the Albion, Dick (or rather, the club) does have a spokesperson - he's called the Press Officer. When the club puts out a press release, especially on things regarding contracts, Falmer etc, it's the club speaking.

With regards a personal spokesperson, what's wrong with a chairman getting pissed off? We don't mind it in our players - it's often labelled 'passion'. You are chastising the chairman (fair enough, he's there to be questioned), but for being human...?

Put it this way, if I went up to Dick and spouted a big pile of shit off at him, I would expect a flea in my ear back, no more than if it was me spouting shit at you. The fact that he is chairman matters not one jot to me.

I wanted Dick Knight put under some pressure from decent callers (and responding with real answers) with decent questions. If I had been Mr Knight I would have told SCR to get their act together or stop asking me on and wasting my f***ing time talking to morons.

1, 2 & 3 encouraging I agree. I'll call a halt to my criticism of his style for now and wait for DK to deliver.
4 - absolutely, one of the most inept, gutless performances I have ever seen from a Brighton side.
5 - this did raise my eyebrows.

Do these prices include the travel voucher costs? If so, at £190, you are asking the Club to spend almost HALF of the season ticket income on the Travel Scheme:-

Ticket price:- £190
VAT is £28
Costs of the travel scheme are £80
The Club retains £82 per season ticket (£3.50 per game)

Thought the phone is was very poor. Was hoping for

1) Some indication as to what is happening to Hammonds contract
2) More details of the Falmer roadshow and what sort of further information regarding the stadium we can expect in the coming months
3) How close are we to securing finance and will the finance for the stadium leave us enough for a competitive playing budget

All we got was a load of people fresh with anger (from what everyone agrees was a substandard performance) having a slanging match with our chairman.

What did it achieve..............nothing.

Just far enough away from LDC
At the risk of insults from the usual suspect, I thought it was a positive phone in yesterday on three fronts:

1) we got behind the corporate spin and got the 'from the horse's mouth' comments. Not all well thought through or well argued but definitely honest.

2) It became clear that some fans dont want answers, they just want questions. Like a Monty Python sketch! It will only strengthen the mind of some against the board but actually persuade significantly more on the fence people that in the absence of any credible alternative, the board needs to be backed

3) I thought Harty did a good job in very dificult circumstances

btw it was mentioned on Brighton fans but wasn't the caller 'Steve' who was accused of the snide comment (and lets be honest it was an attempt at a smart arsed dig) the same Steve who accused the board of pocketing cash last week? Funny he didn;t repeat that comment!

Listened to the phone in on my way back from Lewes. £10 to get in, a good game and a good result, 4-0. Fully intended to go to the Withdean yesterday but thought I might get better value, including a roof over my head, for a tenner at Lewes.

My guess is that the quality of football was little different from the dross you had to endure!

Role on Falmer, I get depressed thinking about going to the theatre of leaves, trees, wind and rain.

Bit like the Eastbourne Borough fan, its easy to support a team on the up but will it be as fun next season if either team start getting stuffed by huge clubs such as Farsley Celtic, Ebbsfleet United or Histon.

For their £10 a head how do their overheads/playing budgets compare, dont the palyers have proper jobs as well

True, but then not every chairman goes into the Lions' Den of a phone-in to answer to their fans.

The man is pissed off with the innuendo and lies being spread around, and purely on account of the fact he went on the phone-in, we got to hear his true feelings when people started talking shite to him. He is only human after all.

I think people are fed up with our inability to sign players (Forster's £75,000 move excepted), DK making a big deal about the fact we bid £100k plus on more than one occasion but never signed the players (big f***ing deal, means nothing if we don't sign the player/s), the fact that Falmer has dragged on for sooooooooooooo long and makes the club look second rate, our stumbling season that will now peter out into nothingness, very high ticket prices and (current) standard of football

Just a depressing time to be a fan right now :nono:

I, on the other hand, feel the opposite.

With the construction of a superb new stadium in the north-east of Brighton starting this year, it could be a far worse time. Yeah, we're marking time on the pitch, but I never really expected any different. Easy to be a smart-arse but this season is going pretty much as I expected.

Oh, and the Falmer project 'dragging on' makes us look very far from second-rate. Considering the hurdles we have had to jump over, and the quality of the site (in planning terms) in the first place, I'd say Martin Perry, DMH, Jonathan Clay and the FFA team have done a FIRST-RATE job.
