Does anyone know anybody who services petrol grass strimmers?
Had a quick search on google but nothing..
Think there used to be a place in Woodingdean back in the day.

Had my strimmer a few years but it doesn't want to start up that easily & when it does get going, it feels hot around the engine & cuts out after 15 mins or so.

Thanks in advance

Place near me in Eastbourne but I'm guessing that's a bit far.

Can't be that hard to do yourself, have you changed the oil, spark plug etc ?

What's the name of the road that everyone cuts down to avoid the level crossing at portslade? North of the railway.

Anyway, there is a lawn mower service place on there, I assume they would do strimmers as well.

sorry, can't help.... However, you really ought to consider getting a diesel one; you get more yards to the gallon.

If my memory serves me well, it was on the Falmer Road, by the Downs Hotel traffic lights. It was knocked down and flats were built there in the early 90's I think.

Not patronising you at all but you are putting a petrol/oil mix in it aren't you. Usually about 40;1 will do it. It's the oil 2 stroke oil mixed with the petrol that lubricates the engine so without it it will,at the very least, overheat after a very short while or more likely seize up altogether. Changing the spark plug as well is always worth doing, only about 3 quid.

Cheers all.
Im mixing the oil in, will check the ratio again though.
Will try the spark plug, if not I'll try the places you've recommended.

I had the oil thought, it is also quite common that the cooling finns on the engine could have become blocked grass debris etc.
If you can take the plastic cowling off and get a piece of wire or narrow screwdriver and run it between them and flick the crap out it should cool better. Also if you can open the air filter and clean the sponge gentle out in a soapy water, dry out and replace.
When you take the spark plug out check out the colour of the electrode it should be a golden brown, if its white it's running to lean (lack of 2 stoke oil maybe) if it's black or oily wet (too much 2 stoke oil).

Try not to get any grass/dust in the fuel tank, although the have a filter on them they can still suck fine parts in to the small jet and cause fuel starvation.

Hope this helps.

Happy strimming and watch out for dog s**t, as it does not taste very nice.
