Shoreham is much busier, but Friday morning are usually quiet (or today was as well) aside a queue all along the High Street @ 07:30 I'm gussing for juice @ Texaco?

I cycled past and pedalled to Lancing.. . .haven't needed any petrol since early March thankfully.

Good luck Gabafella, Don't be afraid of failing, I did 1st time, the 4 week gap between tests gavve me time to think and I relaxed ( a bit) and passed.

Ta - I now live in the middle of nowhere, I'm 3 miles outside of, according to BT, Wales' most remote community so I did wonder if the 2 years of lockdown had affected my judgement!

And likewise Gabafella, I too learned to drive at 44 (6 years ago now!!!), failed my first, settled the nerves a bit for the second go. You'll be a better driver than the young 'uns :)

I'd be surprised if I passed first time, 30hrs intensive I think is hoping a bit, but you never know. Had my test moved from Burgess Hill to Lancing as the pass rate in BH is horrendous, plus I lived in lancing for a couple of years so should know it quite well. Fingers crossed.

Good luck to you - I think the only advice I can give is not try and rush things, take a minor for hesitation rather than joining a roundabout in front of a knobhead whitevanman aggresively coming on to said roundabout like, erm, someone I know.....

Six months to go and not far away. Will it hit the £2?

Anyone else now seriously considering buying an electric car, and is that really why this happening?

I was being very optimistic when I posted this thread wasn't I?! By the end of the year. Make that by the end of June! Unbelievable opportunistic behavior by the petrol companies.

Just back from Crete where unleaded was anything between €2.55 and €2.70 a litre - they are expecting it to hit €3.00 by the end of the summer.

Conversely to the UK diesel there was cheaper

Bloody hell. Not just here then. Why is theirs so expensive? Has that always been the case because of where it is?

Tax.

Remember that, in the words of one of my Greek friends, 'If tax evasion was an Olympic sport, Greeks would be gold medallists'

They can't evade paying tax when they buy fuel.

There was a comparison table on the news last week and I think we were coming in at the 5th most expensive in Europe. Denmark was top and Greece was second which surprised me given the state of their economy.

Guess we've got to pay for Covid somehow and fuel is a nice easy win for governments to get some quick cash back in their coffers.

I filled up on Saturday it was £77. Out of interest I checked my bank statement to see what I paid last time....£63 which was just under a month ago. Very glad I don't use my car much any more.

I’m just back from Canada where it was $2.15 per litre. Was well under a dollar when I was last there four years ago and was under 60 cents briefly in 2020.

Not ideal when driving an RV that does 10 mpg.

Likewise, but the knock on to everything else is starting to show . . . .everything in the supermarket has gone up. all the basic stuff that everyone needs gets delivered on lorries burning diesel.

Dunno if it's just Morrisons or just my buying habits but I've noticed the most substantial increases have been on own brand stuff. Cheese and chicken seem to have gone up an awful lot (~20%).

Clear evidence of profiteering by a huge margin, exploiting the situation.

179.9 in one petrol station in Abergavenny.

Seems like it’s coming down slowly.

Edit: sorry I got that wrong 169.9!

And so it should be with recent large falls in the oil price. In mid June Brent crude was trading above 120. Been as low as 95 ish and now around 100. Oil products similar. The disparities in pump pricing are ridiculous. For example unleaded is around 10p/litre cheaper on the Wirral compared to 45 minutes away in North Wales (or over the river in Liverpool for that matter).
