BRIGHTON boss Mark McGee has hinted that Robbie Pethick's move to the Wessex Stadium could soon be made permanent.
The experienced defender re-joined the Terras on a month's loan from the Seagulls earlier this week having left the club in a big money transfer to Portsmouth back in 1993.
Weymouth player-manager Steve Claridge wants to offer the 33-year-old a long-term deal - something the Nationwide Division Two promotion chasers wouldn't object to.
"Robbie has rejoined Weymouth on a month's loan with a view to a permanent move," McGee told Echosport. "His contract is up at the end of the season and that is why I am letting him go.
"Weymouth could be in the Conference next year, he is coming to the end of his deal at Brighton and we have a lot of youngsters coming through the ranks.
"Robbie is an excellent professional and will continue to be a part of things while he is here, but we have got to be fair to him as well. The likelihood is that we will not be renewing his contract.
"Weymouth are a club who are obviously going places and Steve Claridge has down a wonderful job down there. Robbie has a lot to offer at that level and so we'll just have to wait and see how things pan out."
