 Some people don't think Barnett would improve our squad. I reckon he'd do very well here.

Grant Holt was sold by Nottingham Forest, to Shrewsbury in League 2, who presumably didn't think he was much good. Rickie Lambert has spent his career in the lower leagues, and now both of them are scoring goals in the Premier League. Just because Barnett isn't a big name, doesn't mean he's not capable of improving our team to the point where we could get promoted out of this division.

Where, like Greer, El-Abd, Hammond, Crofts, LuaLua, Ankergren, Brezovan and et al would be replaced with Premier League players. That's how it works, it you survive. If you keep your Championship team together and only add Championship standard players, you're Southampton.

I think Gus is absolutely determined to go down the slick passing Spanish route and is resisting getting in an old fashioned centre forward. In the long run it may be the best option but it is incredibly frustrating for those of us who would win with any style if the pass the ball into the net style isn't working. If he is trying to instil a style of play that isn't working because the players aren't good enough to make it work, he will keep tinkering and replacing players with similar types to what we have but better skills. Getting into the Premier League this season or maybe even next isn't essential. Gus may just want to make sure when we get there we don't have to splash serious money on players who will still take time to bed in, get there as a robust but skilful side, add a couple of players and we may do better than just survive. Steady improvement is fine and maybe we just need to be more patient, I mean it's not like we're watching rubbish football every week!

There's a bad boys culture at POSH with plenty of 'previous' before this latest incident. But maybe not surprising given that their manager isn't exactly a great role model either.

Perhaps we shouldn't be too critical given some of our own squad haven't been exactly squeaky clean (allegedly) but at least our Club hasn't transfer listed them. Makes you wonder if MacAnthony is happy to have a clear out.

I agree that just because Tyrone Barnett and a few fringe players at Peterborough suddenly become available we shouldn't be chasing them as our secret weapon for a push into the Premiership. Posh fans don't seem to rate Barnett that highly.

That is really contradictory. They wont get us into the Premier League but will be useful!? If they are useful they will help us achieve our aims no?

Useful as in, back up..

If we want to make the Prem, then we're gonna have to bring in players that'll make our regulars now drop to the bench.

If they're being kicked out of Posh for that kind of thing, why would we want them here?

Tyrone Barnett? Some of you are still living in the past. We've come a long way since the Bas Savage's and Mark McCammons that we used to acquire. The guy is a League One player at best.

And you're living in a dream world. Who would you suggest is a suitable purchase? I don't whether you've noticed but strikers aren't cheap these days, Barnett (who beat Greer to every ball) is very well thought of by a friend who has seen him play on many occasions.

Exactly! That plus the apparent desperation by some on here for us to get a six foot plus striker regardless of his quality make the clamour look rather hysterical.

Absolutely 100%. Players who have reputations as 'bad boys' rarely turn into role models.

Also, I can't get too excited about Tyrone Barnett. I thought he was nothing better than average when he played against us. He may have won a few headers, but in general, our defence had him in their pockets. He's a half decent League One striker, but I would be wary about paying big money for him.

I see what your saying, but I worry that most of our best players are getting on a bit. If we were signing younger players with a view of developing then I'd be fine, but players like Vicente etc aren't exactly players for the future. I worry that Gus wanted promotion last season or this season at the latest and wasted a fair bit on players who won't be here in the next few years.

Vicente I think was a gamble who shone brightly for a while but I've given up on seeing him as an integral part of the team now. The other Spaniards and Dobbie are starting to look like the players we hoped they would be when they were signed. It's just taken a bit of time.

You have a point but I think Bridge, if we can keep him, and Bruno have at least another season in them, even at the top level should we get there, he'll just have to keep replacing players year on year. Kuz, Bridge and Bruno were inspired signinge. I'm sure Gus will be able to find others like them when required and it'll get easier and easier the more established we become and the fact that we'll soon have a 30k stadium.

Basically I am trying to talk myself into understanding why Gus refuses to sign the nasty big hairy arsed striker that 90% of us want!! He is not a fool so there must be a reason. Patience is undoubtably the key for us fans as long as we keep improving year on year
