Peter Ward - So Just How Good Was He??

He had that rare instinctive football in him.
His lithe way of running slalom style through banks of defenders, leaving several on their arses wondering what just happened to their career!
The ball was stuck to his foot, but he could have a defender beaten before he even collected a pass.

It's my opinion that we had our very own Ronaldo at BHAFC, thirty years before this Portuguese fellow. Somehow he got broken down like natural players often do, by managers who insist on moulding something that's already as perfect as it's ever gonna be.
Sub bench behind Maybank? Ridiculous.
The rumour also went around that Peter had marital problems, and when the seeds of doubts even extended to Mullery using the greatest goalscorer we'd ever seen (and Greaves was pretty prolific in echoing that) as an unused substitute.
What did THAT do for us, and what did it do for Wardy?

I feel privileged to have seen and lived in that era, where I saw the best player ever to wear the stripes, and onstage weekly at a theatre of dreams near me.

Its up to Brett but I have a hunch and feel I am not sticking my neck too far out to say Peter Ward will play.

He will play, thats not in question, but I seem to remember Harty testimonial (or maybe Mayo's) and he only played 10/15 mins because his knees were shot and he couldnt last much longer!

But like CC said, Its Bretts call!
