Had our copy delivered by Amazon to us in Spain last Monday. Wife pinched it to read it first & I got 61 Hours by Lee Child instead.

When I heard him at a talk last year, he said Granada were interested in dramatising the books.

He specifically wanted Brighton to be portrayed as seedy and down-at-heel using all of the city as a backdrop, not just the usual omnipresent 'establishing shots' of the sea, the pier, the beach etc.

These things take yonks to negotiate. How far Granada would allow that kind of licence, gawd knows.

But hey, it's ITV, expect to see Ross Kemp as Roy Grace...

Incidentally, I was there earlier this week, and if I'd stuck around until Friday (which I didn't), I could have heard Peter James talking at the Hay Literary Festival.

The books are definitely being dramatised early next year.

I seem to recall chatting to him at Withdean the season before last and trying to convince him to get Falmer into his next book :lolol:

Could I please have some recommendations as to other books by him that would make a good read.

There are 13 adult novels + one childrens book. I have read 6 of them and all feature Sussex in one form or the other. All most enjoyable.

Dead letter drop
Atom Bomb Angel
Billionaire
Possession
Dreamer
Sweet Heart
Twilight
Prophecy
Alchemist
The Truth
Host
Denial
Faith

How weird is that? I hadn't seen this thread when extoling the virtues of Peter James on the book recomendations thread. Only just been introduced to him and am reading my first book of his, Dead Simple.

Just read Denial on hol. Excellent thriller. Best bit was when the journalist was left to die slowly in a sauna after having both hands cut off and cauterized with a blowtorch. Not so nice though was the lady who had all her teeth pulled out with pliers...

His new novel 'Dead Man's Grip' is published on 26 May, wonder how many references to the AMEX will be made? No waiting for the delivery this year as it 'wings' it way to Spain on 'Kindle'.

Is anyone else on here of the opinion that the last two books were not as good as the first couple?

The one where he went to Germany to look for his wife wasn't up to the high standards of his first few (in my opinion like!)

But it's great to read a book/s which mentions places that we all know and can picture clearly in our minds.

Just need a murder at the Amex now in his next book!!!

Last week he took part in a Brighton Festival Fringe event called "The Two Peters" at the Sallis Benney theatre. The other guy was professor Peter Something who was a bit of a comedian, but has written books about gun crime. Peter James was much more interesting and was talking about his books, crime and Brighton.

It was excellent. He said he really enjoys writing the Grace series, and doing the research with Sussex Plod. He said that he has not plans to stop, and suggested there are many more titles to come after this new one.

I've read the lot and I'm looking forward to the next one. Having said that, if it wasn't for the local angle, I may well have dropped the series after the second book (I still reckon the first 'Dead simple' is the best so far). Felt the second and third lacked the same punch. Got back on track though with the latest offering covering the 'shoe man' case.

Better than most coffee table crime fiction, and certainly of interest to anyone living in Sussex due to the local references. Certainly recommend giving him a try.

Looking forward to his latest, he's a really nice guy too I went to a book signing last year and had a bit a chat with him whilst he was signing what was to become a very well received Father's Day present.
