I wouldnt play either but Crouch is better than Heskey as long as we dont revert to pumping the ball 50 yards to his head...

Can't argue with his record but never really against top class opposition. Also when he is playing, and this isn't his fault, but defenders look for the long ball to often and it gets obvious, you can see Terry go "Oh there's nothing on so instead of playing it out i'll just try and stick it on Crouch's head". He's a bit of a novelty player, you don't see Spain or Brazil with novelty players.

I've bolded the top teams that he has actually made appearances against. Seven of them, all sub appearances. 3 were 10 mins or less. One was joining a team down to ten men. The other three were coming on as a sub after half time.

Is it not reasonable to assume that given more time, given starts, being prepared to start the game with everyone and going out as a team to make an impact, might lead to him scoring goals against top international opponents more than expecting him to change the game when he comes on in the 89th minute?

When it comes to the WC I'll trust Capello's decision, as I'm sure he knows more than me about what will and won't work against certain opposition. Recent friendlies do seem to suggest that he's going to go with Crouch and Rooney.

Maybe there's a reason managers don't start him against top sides. He'll cause average defenders problems, by all means play him against Algeria and Slovenia but against top class defenders he won't do alot.

When we come up against a top side Crouch wont be used. I expect us to use Gerrard behind Rooney against the stronger opposition.
