I don't rate him - but will be happy to be proved wrong. What really worrries me is the message that it sends out - that we are happy to play a long ball hoofing game towards a gangly, skill deficient target man - who from all evidence displayed this season can't even head the ball with power and accuracy.

However no England player deserves to get booed by their own fans when entering the field of play.

except maybe Geoff Thomas...

Crouchy is a very useful weapon to take to Germany with us.

He wins the ball and he has some nice touches.

I for one am glad to see that Sven has finally realised that.

We really could have done with him when we were searching for that elusive goal in the last World Cup vs Brazil.

 to Peter Crouch

What drugs are you on? Have you tried to get help? ???

I think most of the booing was for taking off Wright Philipps... who after all plays in Manchester and the game was in Manchester and he was playing well..

Personaly I would have not made a change the team were doing ok.

Rooney needs to hit the ball like a Beckham penalty to hit lanky boy.

is it any coincence there were 3 changes and he was dropped?

did you not see Englands second goal? No one would pass to lanky!!

I saw Englands second goal, and by my recollection he started the movement from our penalty area, rather than booting the ball up field. Then was in the thick of things when Lampard scored.

I dont see your problem with him.

not a chance - especially as the booing kicked off again the first time he touched the ball. I guess being a Liverpool player didn't help at Old Trafford...

and SWP plays for Chelsea.

Of course it sends the message that England will be playing long balls. Every England team I've ever watched plays long balls with 10 minutes to go when were 1-0 down. Its in the blood. Better to have Crouch than Bent when that happens.

Besides which Crouch wasn't bad for either game, for some he appears to be judged purely on his size.

It's good to see that people take the same approach with international players as they do with Albions. i.e.

I have decided Crouch (or some other scapegoat) is rubbish therefore I shan't let anything he does on a football pitch change my view.

Some of you need to take your heads out of your arses and actually watch the game rather than following the opinions of the herd.

Bollocks - the fact is that he has not performed well so far this season for either club or country..

Could not agree more. Nobody seems to remember him starting the move for the second goal back in his own box last night.

He seems a bit ordinary to me. It annoys me that people slag off the idea of a target man. It's certainly an option worth having in a squad game. And he might not have been that successful yesterday but he normally wins LOADS of balls in the air. He's also quite reasonable on the floor in my view.

My problem with Crouch is that often he will win the header but fail to send the ball anywhere useful. He needs to be a bit more clever with where he's going to flick it on, or occasionally just nod it back to a midfielder to keep possession. And I too would rather take an in-form Heskey than Crouch. But can Heskey sustain his club form until next summer?

From various Liverpool fans I know, who have seen him play so far, he is beginning to settle into the new club. Should we write CKR off yet? It takes time to adapt to a new club. He is obviously highly thought of having racked up over £15m in transfer fees. 50 league goals in 131 starts is not bad for a target man.

Crouch is still young and will improve this season, I am sure of that.

The point of this thread was to defend him from people who have made up their minds. I would happily wait until the squad needs to be announced before coming to a decision, whether it be Heskey or Crouch.
