Gazwag, I bought a second hand car almost 3 years ago, at the time I had a personal registration on retention, I asked the dealer to put it on the car...he was happy to oblige and I collected the car with my own plates already on it.

I was a brand new car I was talking about, so wasn't previously registered, that may be the difference

I have no interest in getting personalized number plates, but we're having a right old ding dong with the DVLA over some old number plates, which were originally on a car, which was then sold separately to its number plate, and we're arguing that the car which has now been restored should have its original number plate - which isn't currently assigned to a car....

They believe we should buy it and since its 3 numbers 3 letters, that we need about £750!! Bollocks to them I say....I won't give in...

Does Guy have

1 TANK?

T6 ANK but he's not got it on his car at the moment we've just retained it for the time being. I got it for him years ago when he was at Gillingham and his squad number was 6 and everyone there called him Tank so made sense back then!

There's a BMW X5 that always parks near my place- I'm looking at it now in fact- with the index X5 DTG.

Always think of Dave when I see that.

Gazwag, just think it might have been the garage getting arsey, all I did was take them the retention document and they did the business...should be even easier with a new car as they have to register it before it is sold to you. My suggestion would be to ask them again and suggest that you might take your trade to another dealer if they are unable to sort this out...I reckon that they will change their tune pretty damn quickly.

I've seen that one about a bit.

Today I saw IO 2 1 ON(or similar) on a BMW M3 cabriolet. The knobbler decided to use the leccy roof at the lights, just as they changed and he had to sit there waiting for the roof to fully drop before he could move on - there were a couple of angry white van mans behind him - whilst I sauntered past in the wifes old Fiesta laughing like a drain - fuckin div!!!!!

Why do people feel the need for a personalised plate?

I have to agree with you. I would maybe offer some respect if Dave the Gaffer bought DTG 1 but folk tend to get something crappy like DTG 765J.....which is neither here nor there to be honest. A friend of mine got 5HYA for his new bourne daughter...but her name didnt start with the number 5.
