getting a new car delivered on saturday, but want a personalised No plate on it...

When you go on the DVLC site, you find the No Plate you want, but what do you do then...it wants details of teh car but you dont know that yet?

Do you send the details of the number plate you have bought to the car supplier?

I started looking in to it but it seems like an awful lot of work. If you haven't bought it yet, there's no way you'll get in on your car for Saturday.

I'd recommend getting the car with standard plates on it first, then getting your personalised plate afterwards through the DVLA. Their website has plenty of info on how it all works.

I bought one a few years ago J5LLO from DVLA, just paid the money and they send documents etc. You them have to fill in forms or go to DVLA near Brighton station to assign it to an actual car. Assignment fee £80 was included in price I think.

I think their website is a bit misleading from the FAQs

What happens once I have a bought a personalised number from DVLA?
We will send you a certificate of entitlement (V750). Keep this safe, as this is the form you will need when you are ready to put your personalised registration mark onto your vehicle.

Just make sure you take it off before you sell the car, as you lose entitlement. I've taken mine off as I was thinking of buying a new car, it cost £25 a year to retain it.

It's a bit of hoo-haa getting a private plate on a car, you will have to get a certificate or something first before you can transfer the plate to your new broom broom and takes a bit of time.

Personalised number plates are just sad. No offence.

What car are you getting DTG?

We went for a new Megane - We know the car car, we like it, and to be honest, it fitted the price range perfectly.

I dont think the dealer can put personalised plates on a brand new car, got our first ever brand new one last month and when we asked about the plates the dealer said they are very strict nowadays, you have to take what you are given, so I assume if you want your own plates on it you have to sort it yourself

true

but the car has 400 miles on it but it was registered as a 56, therefore nearly a year old!!!

Depends how much you pay for it. My uncle/aunt have their first names (sort of...) as UK plates and they cost nearly 30k between them (he's a private practice dentist in ManU Player Land...), but you can get some for fairly normal money, 350 quid or so I think?

Gazwag, I bought a second hand car almost 3 years ago, at the time I had a personal registration on retention, I asked the dealer to put it on the car...he was happy to oblige and I collected the car with my own plates already on it.
