How reliable is that site?

They've got us paying 14m for him.

Wikipedia says Villarreal paid 15m for him. They were champions league semi finalists last season. Why would they sell a regular starter for less than they paid for him?

Ishis contract runing out? Are they in financial difficulty?

Edit: apparently he signed a 7 year contract in 2020...

So, financial difficulties for Villarreal?

When you get the answers to all those questions, will you let us know? Just to confirm, I have no sense of ownership of HITC; I'm just passing on the link to the article.

It is interesting that you accept without question, the Wikipedia entry for his previous transfer fee as the baseline for his current market value, (Transfermarkt says 18m), but seem not to accept the deal suggested on HITC, which may or may not reflect his current market value. I'm not suggesting either, or both, are right, or wrong.

For a bit of balance here, lots of sites are still linking him with Forest.

I think Forest have reached their signings limit.

Cucurella signed for us despite Getafe having agreed a fee with Burnley and us. He just plumped for us cos of Potter, the training ground etc. we are capable of attracting players to the club ha ha…

We also now have a proven record of bringing in players, improving them then them getting picked up by the big boys. I hate to think of us as a stepping stone but being realistic, his signing for us is instantly going to put the likes of the big 6 in England (and possibly some overseas) on alert of "hello, here we go again"...

He actually went to Burnley first for a tour of the training facilities before he plumped for us.

Big mistake!

I suspect Dyche told him he’d be shearing his head and having him gurgle aggregate and eat lard and spam sandwiches if he went there!

"Villarreal continues with its exit operation: Estupiñán, sold to Brighton".

€18 million + €5 million add-ons.

As far as I can tell the deal "seems" done.

What we say in public and the reality of the situation aren’t always the same thing. Of course no PL club is going to call themselves that and we’d all love to be able to hold onto players the calibre of White, Bissouma, Cucurella and so on, but in reality we haven’t and we’re never going to.

Ha! I think they’re more interested when they’ve been improved. (By Potter). Anyway none of the PL etc or big 6 will have heard of him simply because we’ve expressed an interest in last week or so (werent we keen 2 years ago ?)

He’s been on everyone’s radar all summer - the experienced left back market appropriate for the PL is small one , for the big 6 even smaller and they’ve all kept an eye , passed or sought alternatives. He’s an ex PL, La Liga, Champ Lge player./ left back after all . But hard to accept cos we’re teamslikebrightion but still few clubs can match what we’re offering. It’s a €23m package. !

On the price, this site is stating a minimum fee:

“The operation will not be worth less than the amount Villarreal paid to Watford [€16m] in 2020. The fullback’s sale will provide the Spanish club with the necessary funds to carry out signings.”

I would like a more English based legit link if you will(Or did I miss one?),but it does seem very promising that he will come here through the other ones I have seen and I think he could fit in nicely.

Another source:

“This week the desired operation at Villarreal must be certified, the one that should serve to balance the team economically and allow them to think about closing the reinforcements. Thus, footballers Pervis Estupiñán and Boulayé Dia finalize their transfers to Brigthon and Salernitana respectively. Both players had rejected these options a few days ago, but the insistence of both teams and the pressure exerted by the club to get them out seems to have borne fruit.

In the case of Estupiñán, the player had received offers from Nottingham Forest and Brigthon, the latter being the ones that seem to be able to close the deal. It should be remembered that Villarreal has already opened the market thinking about the departure of one of its three left-backs, since Pedraza, Alberto Moreno and Estupiñán were too many. The departure of Estupiñán, it remains to be seen if the amount of his transfer equals or improves the 18 million spent, already supposes a good economic injection.

While in the second case, Villarreal is fighting to recover the 12 million that was paid for Boulayé Dia, an amount that was even talked about improving the Salernitana. After a first refusal by the player to the Italian team, since he preferred Nice, the insistence of La Salernitana and the neglect of Nice, have caused the Senegalese striker to change his mind. Therefore, it is expected that the player will be able to close this week without leaving the club, thus taking the yellows one step further in their exit operation. An operation to which the Alcácer case would remain, which is still waiting to find accommodation.”

So basically the guy rejected us in 2020 and joined Watford and rejected us a few days ago , but now he has been told he needs to go to balance the books - so a grumpy player from day 1

Cue him holding an Albion shirt 2 days from now saying “it’s my dream to play in the PL and I can’t wait to pull on a Brighton shirt”. That’s just what football is now.

In all seriousness, given the due diligence the club clearly puts into our new signings these days, do you seriously think they would willingly part with £15m+ for a player they have reason to think won’t be fully committed to the cause?
