Well, I clearly read the room wrong. Still think he’s miles off what he was last year.
I agree. He seems to be very tentative defensively and his passing has been off.
Could be that he’s still rusty from a long injury, still suffering from some form of injury or he’s not quite so focused as there may be options he has at the end of the season.
Hopefully it’s just rustiness.

This is no surprise to me , everyone thinks that all our injured players will it the ground running when they return,
I think not , will take all returning players quite a few matches to get match fit , I am talking about 2 to 3 matches, more like a dozen matches
Makes not using the window to our advantage even more bizarre.

Yes, Pervis hasn't hit the heights of last season.

Likely because ....

  • The injury affected him worse than we thought
  • Mitoma also has been out for a bit so hasn't been able to reforge that formidable partnership often enough
  • PL managers have had time to analyse him and nullify his strengths

The situation will be more intriguing with the arrival of Barco. There is a genuine specialist player to fight for his position. How will he react?

Even if Barco isn;t bought straight in Pervis's spot is under threat. Veltman back (at RB) and Mitoma at (LW) means that Lampety is now freed up to compete for that LB slot. I personally think Tariq was terrific when he covered there.

Also Igor, who was playing quite well before coming out of the side. It looks like there's no way back for him at CB with the form of JPVH and Dunky. But I could certainly see us play a non attacking back 4 of ..... Veltman --Dunk -- Van Hecke --- Igor .... with a view to trying to shore up our defensive record.

I suspect Barco may be looked at as being a back up for March, rather than competition for Estupinan.

At right wing? Competing with Adingra and Facu?
Adingra should be back up for Mitoma
Facu should be back up for Enciso playing through the middle

A LB as back up for a right winger?
Who was our back up Left back before he got injured?
RDZ likes left footers on the right wing.

Barco has been played increasingly further forward 10 games Left Back, 15 games Left Midfield, 8 games Left wing

The implication of what you are saying then then is that Barco starts at right wing as he is our only fit right winger. Adingra doesn't start as he's the back up left winger.

Can't see that happening.

I can see Barco getting plenty of minutes at left back while Pervis recovers his form and fitness.

When we were really motoring, early in the season before he got injured, March was on the right (and was playing the best football of his life) and Mitoma on the left.

Not disputing that.

It just reaffirms that RDZ likes inverted wingers.
We don't have any other left footed wingers.

Barco can play in multiple positions ,but has more experience playing further forward than he has LB.
His versatility has made him very appealing for us.

I can see him being tried on the wing whilst March is out, if RDZ judges him as good enough.
We can't expect Mitoma and Adingra to play every minute of every game for the rest of the season.
Whereas Igor, Milner or Barco can provide cover for Estupinan when needed.

I can't see Mitoma and Adingra playing every minute of every game in RDZ's preferred formation.
Minimum of 17 games left this season. Both of them have put in a lot of games/minutes for club and country.

You may well be right.
But to clarify, although he's considered to be a great prospect, he has played less than a third of his appearances this season at LB.
His reputation isn't as the best LB prospect around, it's as one of the best young players around.

IMO, he looks quite slight, and it may take some time before he is physically ready to share the load with Pervis.
We have two experienced players who have already covered Pervis's role this season.

We have had Injury issues with wingers all season and I can see more opportunities in that position than I can at LB.

I wonder if, with our succession planning, Adingra might be Mitoma´s replacement when we sell him in the Summer.

I think that was probably the plan.
With the impact of PSR, it's possible that we won't be offered enough money to make it worth our while to sell Mitoma.

Tim Vickery really didn't see him playing LB much for us at all and doesn't think he has the attributes to be a defender in the Prem. Rates him highly as a more attacking option.

what on earth has happened to him since he’s come back from injury? used to be imperious, now constantly looks timid and negative when he plays. been absolutely miles off it.

de zerbi ball can’t really work without wingers but having an energetic overlapping fullback is also hugely helpful and we’re hugely missing that right now as the one we have looks a shadow of his former self

I know most of you don't but gonna feel for Webster.

Berasi and Maldini would struggle at the back with Pervis in tow.
Inexplicably he suddenly has all the positional awareness of a Halibut on Strictly.
