The arrival of Tony Bloom’s millions has saved the club's Falmer Stadium dream, Albion chief executive Martin Perry said.

Without the entrepreneur's interest-free long-term loans, the new stadium could not have been built.

Mr Perry, speaking on the phone from his holiday in Egypt, said: “It has taken all the uncertainty out of the development.

“It is fantastic because the funding is secured, it's there and it's available to pay for the building of the stadium and to cover all the costs now.

“It gives us our stadium. We would not have the stadium without him. In the current financial climate with banks not being prepared to lend, there was no other way of funding the stadium.

“We suffer losses while we are at Withdean and those are being covered as well, so we are in a fantastic position.

“It's massive news for the club.”

Had Bloom not come in with the dollar. Perry would need alot of egg scraping off his face.

Erm, didn't they say the "funding was all in place" years ago? Has this deal been agreed for years, or were we being lied to?

Sorry to bring a downer on a night like this, but we have ALWAYS been told the funding was in place, and now Perry is sounding like he's breathing a huge sigh of relief.

I think a lot of humble pie is in need of eating from those that didn't believe me when I said the club would not get bank funding in the current climate and that the only reason the building had started was because an individual had stumped up the cash.

Thank god for Tony Bloom.

Perhap's Bloom coming in with his millions was always a plan B incase the bank's wouldn't lend. Therefore, funding WAS always in place.

As I kept pointing out the club were very careful in how they worded the existence of funding. Back in Spetember they said an announcement was due within weeks. Then the banks collapsed and nothing happened. Bloom was due to fund some but the continuing lack of available bank funding has clearly not changed particualrly for a project of this size and nature. Beyond the clubs control but the bank funding was NOT ever there.

Bloom has therefore saved us from a complete disaster.

I wonder now if the stadium can be built a bit quicker? The snails pace two year programme seems very excessvie.

To indulge in wild speculation, could this be the reason for the latest increase in cost?

There's a surprise more spin from the ex Chairman on the stadium while at the Falmer Forum.

Thank f*ck for the Blooms relieving us and breathing life back into the club from would have been nothing short of suicide and probably the end of the Albion as a league side.

Now it's down to the fans.

arise Sir Bloom :bowdown::bowdown::bowdown:

Yes, I believe this deal has been on the cards all along, with just the timing and execution that was to be agreed. The plan was never to fund it from the banks, as we would have had that signed up ages ago if so. Also, the bank funding never seemed to add up financially for me, we seemed to be lining ourselves up for very tough interest payments along.

The talk of grants was all very well, but never had me convinced this was financially viable without an investor.

When I've got more time I think I might bounce some of the hundreds of arguments in which many said "we won't have the money to build Falmer" and were shouted down by the small band of club lickers. At least we won't have to listen to these idiots anymore, now it's been PROVEN they haven't a clue.

That all seems very harsh, the banks imploding was unforeseen and obviously scuppered a lot of plans

So we haven't got the money to build Falmer then? :wozza:

Eh? If anything this has proven the likes of myself right! We didn't have the money, we had no way of getting the money so we've had to sell the club to get it.

God bless Tony Bloom for getting us out of the mire.
