On the subject of Alexa. My new LG TV is Alexa compatible. "Alexa, turn off TV" and off goes the TV. "Alexa, turn on TV", "TV not responding", that's because it's turned off and has no power!!!!
£1130 off the Show 8 looks a bargain.

Apparently you need to go into the TV settings and make sure WiFi stays on when the TV is turned off - it is disabled by default.

Blink mini camera - £34.99 reduced to £26.99 >>> https://amzn.to/38YSP6h

Nice one, was only thinking this morning next time the Blink mini are reduced I'll get a couple more.

I was leant a Furbo to keep an eye on the dog and now she wants it back. Furbo.....Terrible bit of kit for the money. The Blink mini does everything it does except for toss a treat out which doesn't work half the time as the mechanism gets jammed. That combined with it being a ball ache to setup and needs rebooting every so often when not responsive I really wouldn't recommend. Oh and its massive. The Blink minis are a little bigger than a golf ball and 1/10th of the price.

I didn't realise that Amazon had started selling medical equipment. Could save me a fortune in colonoscopy fees.

Just remember to give it a wipe with a bit of tissue between uses. Then you can use it the other end as well. Ian Amazon thinks of everything.

I’m in no way critical of these things, but I remember when 1984 by George Orwell came out, and we were all horrified at the idea of there being cameras/microphones inside our homes that were effectively always on and could monitor what we said and did.

Now we buy them from Jeff Bezos.

I for one welcome our new (Amazonian) overlords.

Luckily most of us realise we're as boring as f*ck and no one in their right mind would want to spy on us.

Quite, if Jeff wants to spend a bit of time sharing my mostly dull life he's more than welcome.

We have both a show 5 and 8, the novelty wore off fairly quickly and they only really get used for music now.

We also have an Echo dot (the one with a clock) and an echo in the lounge, these are great and work well with Apple Music.

The Blink Mini's are brilliant for spying on the dog (and me if Jeff really wanted to watch me watching cricket for four hours today).

The technical infrastructure of an Orwellian totalitarian dystopia is now in place. We just need the government to start doing things like passing laws restricting protests or continually extending draconian Covid related restrictions indefinitely (many have already been extend to October).

Can’t see it happening myself. [emoji51]

First published June 1949. That’s a good memory.
