So it transpires we are going to buy him and the Argus suggests he will not be a member of the Premier League squad . FFS - why bother if that is true . Leading him on with the promise of premier league football and then sticking him in the under 23's = never to be seen again .
Q.How many under 23's make the first team ?
A . None these days - maybe a cup game.

Pointless exercise unless Percy gets into the first team squad - and this thread was therefore pointless

Agree, surely a 24 year old player is purchased to go straight into the squad or at least fight for a 1st team place, otherwise why bother until he is 25 I do not get it.

Or, we actually do want him for the first team but he can't get a work permit as yet and therefore need to loan him out to a European club until he can play here?

Have you missed everything recently on this thread? He won't get a work permit yet so needs to go to a European league for a year to get one next year. Going to the under 23s would not help that at all.

He's coming in for a relatively small fee (bonkers we consider it small now) so even if it turns out that he is never good enough to play for our first team we could find we're able to sell him on for a profit.

He can’t go into the U23s at all as the work permit issue prevents him from playing in this country.

Somewhere like Union Saint Gilloise?

Doubtful it will be them as they wouldn’t be playing in a high enough league for Tau to then qualify for a UK permit. Getting him out on loan means he will also hopefully be in the South Africa squad which will also help towards the Work Permit application.

Agree. Not sure how others suggest we have been leading him on! Pretty sure the way forward was mapped out for him and his agent.

From Sky Sports:

'TAU SET FOR BRIGHTON

Brighton are closing in on the signing of Percy Tau with the Mamelodi Sundowns winger expected in the UK to discuss personal terms and undergo a medical in the coming days.

Should the deal go through it’s understood the South African international will be loaned to a European side to help with the work permit application.

We understand Brighton also remain in the market for a centre-back and retain an interest in Reading’s Liam Moore.'

Nothing we didn't already establish, but still.

No... needs to be playing at a higher level

anywhere will be a higher level than where hes been playing.

How many pages for a player who a) has a slim chance of making it in the prem and b) wont even be seen in our colours this season

Less exciting than a dev squad signing is the reality

After Tony claimed there'd be no link between the two clubs, I'd be extremely shocked.
The standard of the Belgian second div is crap too, to the bargain.

You're right though: that's a very solid source. Hmm. Interesting.

Look in the replies to that tweet. It appears he's unaware that there is NO affiliation between the two clubs. Also, thinking about it logically, loaning him to the Belgian Second Tier is neither adequate for acclimatising him to European football, nor is it adequate for aiding his work permit, so I'd be stunned if he actually did go there on loan.

Presumably he's gone 2+2=5 then.
