I can see bloom spending £3m max for next season and then £1m if we are close at Xmas but after that £1m a season max - it's going to need some very shrewd purchases on that money because next season there are even more good teams pushing for the top. If the board and Tb don't spend at least that ready for the start then expect another poor season

£10m including wages? You have pretty much proved my point that we won't be going anywhere fast. We need to invest 4/5 mil on strikers alone at the bare minimum at the going rate, at that's without looking at all our other shortcomings in terms of strengthening the squad.

Astute signings like Kayal and assembling an effectively managed squad like Ipswich demonstrate splashing the cash Forest-like isn't necessary to assemble a potential top 6 team.

I don't know what it meant to be honest. We certainly won't be spending £10m more than we did this season, that would be mental. We're already committed to 16ish players, so we need quite a few more. We've released CMS, Kemy, Hughes, Maksimenko and McCourt, then there's a few loans that won't be extended. CMS frees up about £1.4m a year on his own, so we should have a reasonable chunk to spend. I expect us to buy some decent players.

I believe that CH has only said about those out of contract and there will be some who are in contract who will also leave either on frees or sold.

Unfortunately Ipswich have had the spine of a good team for a few years now. About 3/4 of our players max are good enough.

Nevertheless their team was constructed for a pittance.

Has anyone worked out the breakdown of what we have ACTUALLY spent in each of the last 4 summers?
2011 included the arrival of CMS and Buckley for around 4million combined... but i can't recall anything like that sort of amount being spent in any summer since?
I guess if we'd got Clayton last summer, we might have been close to that 4 million again (cost of Baldock, Stockdale and COG)

Seems like it wouldn't take much to surpass previous years, so maybe stupidly I actually expect and believe there will be a larger outlay before the season starts this time

People like Kayal are promotion calibre. Not all sides that go up are full of quality.
So what do you think we'll be spending? We'll obviously be spending more than £10m on the squad, including wages, and it's hard to imagine we'll be breaking the FFP rules (is the limit for losses £8m, as this season?)

Up to £13m losses allowed for 15/16 season (with owner investment).

Bloom is in a very difficult position. We need to stay in this division to attract support, sponsors and other associated revenue. but if he hasn't got the money to buy quality players we run the risk that next year will be as bad if not worse. What is that likely to do to season ticket renewals?

Hopefully there will be some good young players coming though, but anyone thinking that good players are going to drop in our laps for nothing or next to nothing need to take a reality check. Players get released for a reason and it's usually because they aren't good enough. That being the case are they going to make any real difference to our squad?

It will take at least a couple of seasons before we are potentially challenging for the top 6 in this division again. We have to hope we can get good players on the cheap, Bloom has made his position clear. Large cohort of our squad is too old now, if people think there will be massive changes to the squad and we will get top quality striker(s) then dream on.

Look, it can be done - but it's just unlikely. The club choosing the least likeliest way of getting promotion is not going to cheer us up. Most of the teams at the top have spend some money on quality players. We've got lucky with Kayal getting him cheaply but you just rarely get that lucky building a successful team on freebies. If that's the strategy, much more likely we will be down the wrong end of the table again.

We need a massive overhaul, there is not one part of the team that is functioning well even though it's obvious the striker situation is the worst. People who think we have good defenders here are missing the fact that we've mainly set up with a defensive strategy this season of one striker and plenty of defensive midfielders - it's only ever taken a small amount of goals to beat us because we never score any ourselves! That doesn't mean we are "defending well".

3 more lots of parachute payments coming down , this league is only going to get harder , if we start next season with virtually the same players we will be torn new ones , no doubt on numerous occasions. we played a good side yesterday and matched them for large portions of the game but hesitant defending and lack of goals brought us undone ....again.

Here
'Realise' or 'Realize'?

Realise vs. realize

Realise and realize are different spellings of the same word, and both are used to varying degrees throughout the English-speaking world. Realize is the preferred spelling in American and Canadian English, and realise is preferred outside North America. The spelling distinction extends to all derivatives of the verb, including realised/realized, realising/realizing, and realisation/realization.

So it's much like colour, defence and favourite.

I agree but equally, dishing out the dosh as many are clamouring for is no guarantee of success. It doesn't have to be an either/or situation and there is no magic formula that gains us promotion. What it does have however is 3 basic elements:

1. a squad of motivated/committed/skilled/home-grown/bought-in players
2. a manager with sufficient tactical, creational and motivational resolve
3. a fair slice of luck.

We haven't got that set of players yet. Do we have the manager? Will we get the luck?

Defence? Pronounced differently on t'other side of the pond, I know, but do they spell it differently?
