Interesting what with that caller on Saturday dropping Man Utd to support Brighton.
The same subject was also talked about on radio 5 live on Saturday evening. A few people called up saying they have had enough of the premiership, they find it boring and they are fed up with the amount of money these players are being paid and they way supporters get treated.

Some of them now go and watch non league football, and admit to it being more exciting and most importantly how supporters can talk to the players get autographs from the players.

I have a couple of mates who were childhood fans of Liverpool and Arsenal, but are really not that fussed about them anymore and are definitely being converted to the Albion more and more.

I am housesitting for the folks. They have SKY. I tried to watch the Man City vs Arsenal game and the Man Utd vs Stoke game, but bored of them very quickly. Overkill of football on TV and general apathy towards our top flight. I'm not sure why I even tried to watch them. My book was much more enjoyable.

One of the best things about the Albion is that we have the option to show up early and get their autographs and wish the team luck for the match, congratulate them on last weeks result and they're very very responsive and will pose for photos.

Although he didn't score KLL said he'd celebtrate in front of the family stand to four small children yesterday and I reckon he would have too.

The problem with a lot of these 'fans' is the fact that they weren't real fans of their 'first teams' anyway and just watch the matches on the telly! No wonder they get bored watchinig sky sports week in week out.

I quite agree, but ultimately our ambition is to reach the Premiership and thus join the Gravy Train.

We will then retain that identity that is drawing people in at the moment?

A mate of mine who is an Arsenal fan keeps saying he wants to come and watch the Albion following my glowing reports this season (well since the Gus Bus rode into town).

In fact he might even join us on the trip to Peterboro on Sat if one of our usual group has to drop out.

If we continue this seasons momentum, gain promotion and have our shiny new stadium waiting for us I don't think we'll have any problem gaining a few thousand additional fans from within our catchment area. A lot of neutrals/prem fans may be curious and decide to follow us.

A friend of mine, in his late 50s, has followed Man U since he was a small child (he's a genuine Manc), a few years ago he said he'd enough of the whole circus and following them wasn't much fun. Rather than go down the FC United route, he supports Macclesfield, which is where he now lives, and has said that he's fallen in love with football again.

I think the Rooney saga will have alienated a few more people too.

Funnily enough, John Rooney (brother of Wayne) refused to sign a new contract with Macclesfield and has now found himself on the scrap heap without a club.

A friend of mine born and bred in Slough (Man Utd of course...) is rediscovering his love of football at Brentford... saw them about 30 times last year and has carried on this season...

I used to love Arsenal, but for some reason i went to a Brighton game once and we lost but the atmosphere was brilliant, the fans were amazing and i had a great time and i got bored of Arsenal not winning anything and soon enough i was converted and now i'm Brighton thats it, i've also converted a friend of mine who was Chelsea through and through but now he's not bothered about them and he is a season ticket holder along with me and 3 others. Now hoping to convert my friends dad who is also Chelsea but he's getting there

Never been a Premiership fan. As a small kid, if people asked me to pick a premiership team, then I'd have always said Tottenham, because originally that was my dads team as a child. But everyone I knew, knew that I was a Brighton fan.
Was never taken in by it.

In answer to the question, yes.

I'm quite pleased to report I've created a convert.

About 2 years ago a old mate & his family from mid-Sussex came to visit me in Telford and his 13 year old son was a Chelsea TV supporter. Happen their visit coincided with Tranmere V Albion and I found him a bl;ue and white shirt to wear and off we went. Heard last week that he's now a STH at Withers ....

Good lad !

My friend is 70 years old and has supported Liverpool all his life. He moved to Sussex last year and I suggested he come down the Albion.
Last season he went with us to Swindon away and on Saturday he was at Withdean for his second home match running.

Before the match he bought a blue & white scarf and told me he has "put his red one away". He's prefering watching the game in the fresh air than on Sky Sports and is even talking about a Falmer season ticket.

Its never too late to start loving The Albion :albion2:

I would honestly get bored very quickly if we found ourselves as a Birmingham or a Fulham, or even an Aston Villa, whereby I'm not seriously worried about there being 3 worse teams than us, and I have no real believe we could ever be competing for a top 4 place, let alone the title.

Surely the enjoyment comes from the rollercoaster that is Promotions and Relegations. Bouncing between 12th and 14th doesn't really offer the same sort of excitement. That is the problem the Premiership has, that it's gone so far from being a level playing field that it really is very dull for a lot of fans .... and neutrals, well I lost virtually all interest in it years back. It's just far too predictable.

I think you have to split supporters into two groups these days. Those who follow their team down the pub on Super Saturday or Judgement Sunday or whatever and those who go to games. Most supporters I know, or talk to, and who go to games, do not give a stuff about the Premiership and/or think it's dull and predicatable. Those who go to the pub have the view the Premiership is the be-all and think lower league football is shite.
