Some people on here seem to be totally clueless with regard to some of the basic rules of the game. How can anyone who even hints at being a football follower, not be aware that the whole of the ball has to cross the line. There have been countless debates on here and just as many in the media in particular to goal line incidents yet it seems to go in one ear and out the other.

Please can you have at least a basic understanding of the game you purport to follow, at least more than just the fact that a few people are kicking a spherical object around!!!!!

I'm aware of the whole ball crossing the line...just curious as to where the line is...the marking is quite wide. Im an Albion fan, not a footy fan and do not watch any footy on tv so I'm not partial to media debates.

The one where Greer fouled a player after the ref had blown the whistle but before the Rochdale player had kicked the ball. The ref called it a penalty, the laws say otherwise.

Ah, yes, rings a bell...I think. That game was the day after my wedding so my memory is a little hazy.

I listened to the game, not watched it, but a common error made with corners is whether it is in or out. The definition of being 'outside' the corner arc is the same for it being a goal or out of play; the entire ball has to cross the line, so if the curve of the ball overhangs the line it is still considered 'inside'. If it was entirely out of the quadrant, then ignore this.

The number of people near me squealing about ball not being in the right place, and giving the linesman abuse was cringeworthy.

They're shouting, with maximum irony and minimum intellect, that the linesman didn't know the rules...
