I am totally at a loss as to what to do with my vote in this election. I really fail to see what the point of the commissioners really is, I am not aware that the public were clamouring for an elected overseer of the police. It has yet to be adequately explained to me what powers the PCC's have and whether that would help the police in anyway. I've looked at the blurbs on the My PCC website and can nothing but vague promises to cut bureaucracy, use the word community a lot and to keep Sussex Safe.

I value my vote, and I always do vote at local, national and european levels, but i am contemplating spoiling the ballot for this one as I am yet to be convinced about the need for a PCC in the first place.

Agreed 100%, I am utterly unconvinced that this is good idea - Quite how having an individual in charge, rather than an authority made up of elected individuals and other 'experts' such as magistrates, makes the police more accountable, I have no idea.....

I just don't know whether I don't vote or just spoil my paper....

There should be another box on your ballot paper that says none of the above, if you don't believe any of the candidates are fit to be the local PCC there's nothing you can do.

Not only are we having a pointless election, but Dorothy Stringer School is having to shut for the day to accomodate it. That is quite ridiculous. An entire school closing for what will be a 10% turn out in a pointless exercise of bureaucracy that introduces politics into something that should be apolitical. Madness.

How long before Katy comes on here again asking us to vote for her?

It is apparently costing us £100m. Good job we've got nothing else to spend it on. Just don't vote for the creationist, who I think is the only independent. Caught a few secs of the South Today overview last night of the Kent candidates - you wouldn't hire any of them to run a tombola stall at a village fate. I gather their overview of the 5 Sussex candidates in next week.

This, added to which I am against the (further) politicisation of the police force.

I don't think that means much.....

...it certainly doesn't mean anything good. Having a PCC that is or has been plod already negates the role quite frankly when part of the idea is to get away from the institutionalised power at the moment.

My thoughts too, however - the police are not politicised. So it wouldn't make matters much worse if a copper was to be PCC..
