I am having no end of problems with bloody Pop Ups on my PC. “Stop looking at porn” – I know. I’ve told the wife but will she listen?

Things I’ve tried so far.

1. Ran Spy-Bot, AVG and Windows Defender spyware programmes. All ran in normal and safe mode.

2. Changed ALL internet and browser settings to ‘Don’t allow pop ups’

3. Switched to Firefox….

NOTHING

Can any of you kind folks help? It is so bloody annoying and seems pretty stubborn

Cheers

Have you checked your security system settings (Avast/Norton etc) to make sure pop ups are not allowed?

Sounds like one of the persistent and very annoying WORMS... Klez, Samy, Zotob... you will need to identify which one, and will almost certainly be able to find the appropriate cleaning actions via Symantec website or similar.

Try running Hitman Pro - Hitman Pro | Alles-in-1 oplossing tegen spyware - Home

It is free and downloads trial versions of loads of different spyware checkers. These will run one after the other. They may not get rid of the problem but if you run it twice then the same one may appear which will help find out which virus/malware is the problem. You can then google that name and try and find a solution.

Don't worry that the site is Dutch - the program will run in English. It will take a while but it may work. Switching to Firefox won't fix existing problems but will cut down the risk of you getting further infections. If you click on links/attachments you shouldn't though, it can't help.

Give hitman a go - it takes a while to download all the signatures and to run but one checker might find something others don't.

Randomly PMing people you've heard hearsay might be "good with computers" is obnoxious and is now why my response to "oh, you work in IT, do you know anything about..." is always "No".

People who work in IT are not free IT help desks.

I can understand what you are saying MYOB, but for some of us that make our living from I.T. in both a corporate environment plus also privately, I'll always go well out of my way to try and help someone with any computer problem, small or large.

I may not make any money out of it now, but you gain the trust of the user who will hopefully think of you in the future when you will get paid for doing something you know well and enjoy. :clap2:

If there was a place somewhere on this forum that I could put a very large "Please send me a PM if you have ANY computer problems whatsoever and I'm sure I can help you fix it" then I'd be first in the line to post there I can assure you!

Fair play, but why then do you feel the need to share with the world at every opportunity your vast and encyclopedic knowledge of all things Ireland (more often than not, when not asked)?

You're selective with your desire to spread knowledge, it seems.

Sounds like you have a nasty little root kit trojan they put themselfs into systems 32 and make out they are part of the windows system most anti spyware programs don't find them.

Download spyware doctor this will probably find the little blighter and give it a name, [but will not delete it unless you buy the program] make a note of the name and go to norton antivirus site and look for a fix.

Let me know how you get on.

And doctors and nurses are not free clinics, but the friendly ones will give you a bit of advice if you ask them something in a social situation.

Indeed. But when everyone who knows you're a doctor or nurse sends all the people they know to you for advice/help, ranging from sniffles to broken limbs... and then expects to come out healthy...

Change the "status" under your name to something else. I have signatures and avatars disabled too.

The default status is "Registered User" which can be changed for something else.

Either that or append a signature to the end of your post every single time like Thimble Keegan does!
