Wife and I both have an iPhone and both have an iPad. I'm not jealous of those with more Apple products than we have. I too find the excitement around the release of some of their products a bit nauseating. I find the Watch to be a bit odd.

I really don't get the whole 'brand fanboy' thing. If a product is good I will buy it, regardless of the brand. To me, it's like only ever buying Vax vaccuum cleaners, for example, and being really, really excited every time they release a new one. "Yeah but look at all the cool stuff my Vax can do that your crappy Hoover can't!" It's all a bit weird IMO.

Where did I say they invented the smart phone?
Apple revolutionised the concept of a smartphone. They dragged the entire industry into a better place in terms of user experience, apps and media consumption. That in no way suggesting they're still the best now. But to say it's only down to their design is doing them a huge disservice.

Haha, schizophrenic is a bit strong. I'm not totally serious. The heartbeat thing is silly.
Basically, I for the most part, love Apple products. I'm happy to pay the premium for them because the hardware and user experience is often superior to the competition.
I get annoyed when people bash technological advances like Apple Pay because I've seen it so many times before and people are often proved wrong. Whenever some new technology comes along people are instantly dismissive. When Apple are the ones to introduce these changes for some reason the reaction seems to be blown out of all proportion. Remember when the iPod launched? "I have a CD player!?", the iPhone? "Where's the keyboard?", the iPad "It's just a big iPhone!" and now the Watch "It's just a phone on your wrist".
People LOVE to bash them. Because their users are so happy with their products that they tell everyone about it. Whether they care or not.

The ability to swipe my watch across the barriers rather than dig around for my phone/wallet is to me "super exciting". If that makes me a "****" or a "simpleton" in your eyes, then that's absolutely fine.

Haven't bothered to read up on the tech but isn't it usually the case that contactless only works over a few centimeters, and probably less than the thickness of your wrist? So unless you wear your watch face-down aren't you going to have to do some sort of wrist rotation manoeuvre every time you want to go through the barrier?
I foresee much spilling of coffee and dropping of bags at the barriers as a result of this.*
*For others, of course; I'm not impugning your manual dexterity.

You make a fair point regarding bashing products just because it's Apple, unfortunately, straight below it you show why it's a self-perpuating cycle. The more everyone is told how brilliant they are, the more they argue they're not, inciting the supporters to further 'prove' it. It'll never end...*weeps*
I still personally think the watch* will go the way of GoogleGlass though. Impressive tech, no doubt, but a long way away from being considered an essential purchase.
*all Android watches are included in this as well

where is there a disservice? UX and apps are all facets of design. they take the concepts others have got working and produce a design that raises the bar. that, and attention to quality, is what has made Apple. what they don't do is make great invention of devices and systems in the first place. the thing they brought to the smartphone in iphone 1 was touchscreen, already available elsewhere.
