West is BEST
Just had some paving completed for a small patch of grass where eventually a picnic bench will sit.

Unfortunately, at one of end of the strip of grass there is a drain cover. With the remit of making it look as neat as possible this is what the tradesman I employed has come up with as in the photo. He seems to think it's OK whilst I think it looks terrible.

Any tradespeople think I'm being unreasonable? Looks like a botch job to my eyes. What should he have done?View attachment 138315

Huge, unfilled gaps between slabs too, is it all like that?

Why on earth so I bother trying to get anything spot on when evidently people exist who have to ask if that's ok?

Oh yeah, pride. Not saying I'm full of it but a tiny bit is definitely needed there.

Had this done last year - standard job to replace the original cover with one that takes matching slabs.

10/10 for neatness.
5/10 for the scratchy slab.

I am wondering whether the guy was doing a cash job? Or was he considerable cheaper than other quotes you may have had???

Lucky you don't have a round drain cover, as the finished job would probably have been even worse.

How much have you been charged, how big was the area slabbed, and what was there before? Did the price include slabs or did you pay for those yourself?

I've done two DIY patios myself and would never finish it like that, it would drive me mad. But if you've had a cheap job, cash in hand etc then........

Its all relative to the cost.

Jeez ... send him a pic of a recessed manhole cover, tell him to buy and fit it and then you might pay.

I suspect the rest of it is pretty horrid too

Personally, I think it looks great and if any other NSC folk want a similar job done my rates are competitive.
