I like the idea of having a psychic pet so to make this weekend's matches more interesting I've decided to get the cat involved.

I have 2 bowls - one blue, one white. I will fill both with her favourite catfood. Whichever one she eats from first will dictate who will win between Uruguay and Germany.

What if she just licks the food in one bowl before moving along to the next and taking a bite?

What constitutes "eat from first"? I'd be tempted to lump on a penalties outcome rather than outright result if this happened.

.... I`ve put a line down the middle of my garden and am awaiting which side my Jack Russell shits on first. Shed side its the Krauts and fence side the boys from U R Gay.

The amount of lumps will dictate goals scored... watch this space.

That means Holland 1-0 up at half-time, Spain win 2-1.

Licking doesn't count, it has to be a proper mouthful with digestion and everything.

If the cat's going to be difficult about it I might go for the "white brick/blue brick toddler in the garden" option.

Great thread this.

But I'm worried: what if the cat's not hungry? Does it go to penalties in the form of which side of next door's garden it craps on?

Thing is cats are finnicky eaters. I`m sticking with dog shit.

I can't believe the cat wouldn't be interested in potential national stardom. All she's got to do is eat some Whiskas from a bowl, FFS.

That said, there's a lot of potential unreliability here - same with toddlers. Both tend to go off in random directions...

I do something vaguely similar with my cat, Floyd.

Every dinner time I hold up two sachets of food, just above his head, and every time he will GENUINELY:

take a few seconds, look at both a couple of times, then touch one (and only one) with his paw. It is brillio.

And I'm not posting this as "oh look isn't my darling cat clever". Because generally he is thick as sh*t.

Am at home today and my dog has done her first effort of the day. (she normally does about 3)
She has gone on Uraquays side just in the shadow of the garage.
Cant really help on first goalscorer bets though.

Imagine if we ALL did this with our pets and we ALL got the same team, thus uncovering some spooky psychic understanding permeating the animal kingdom.

Would that make Paul The Octopus the cephalopod equivalent of Jesus?

Can someone do a goldfish one as well. I`ve always been convinced that they know more than they`re letting on.

There was some great footage of Paul this morning, the sheer number of cameras was incredible. That boy has put Oberhausen on the map, the Sea Life Centre's visitor numbers will quadruple.

They could start charging for requests. 'Paul, I've got these two birds quite keen, one's dead fit, the other's got a great personality, what do you reckon? - *to the keeper* If I give you the two names and 50 euros, can you put them in the tanks? Danke schon.'

To think he'll end up in a paella, it's so sad...

Anyone remember "Baby left, baby right" from TFI Friday?

I think I might be tempted to make the German section about three quarters of the garden, just to even things out a bit
