Paul Reid - Left full back? Discuss

Now, i've nothing against Paul Reid as a player. But i'm just not convinced he's good enough on the left, as he clearly has NO left foot at all. I know Mayo's not exactly a great alternative, but surely we can do better?

Reid is a good right sided player, so should be played on the right side, or not at all in my opinion. Too many times tonight, and in the last few times has he been frequently 'done' on the left, and can't get rid of the ball quick enough.

(fair enough, he was immense against Palace, but then we all were).

Thoughts????

I must admit, he's not convincing when defending a player running at him. That time when Chris Eagles just run through him and drove a shot across the goal was VILLAGE defending.

I think people obsess about this too much - Reidy is a natural footballer with excellent technique, very comfortable with the ball. He may not be a LB for the rest of his life but he's doing a decent job for us.

Agree. He was very poor tonight. Needs to be back on the right side. It will have to be Kerry or Dodds on the left.

Reid is better at the moment than Mayo. I think that he struggled more today as Frutos seemed not to help defensively quite so well.

The boys were lucky but who cares?

I'm not arguing about today, i'll quite happily take the point.

But too often Reid is having to play balls with the outside of his right boot which aren't very accurate, causing play to slow down, and losing the effectiveness of the counter attacks that have served us wel this season. Having said that, Mayo was not with it against Norwich, so there isn't much in the way of options

I think the real question should be is Hart a right back?

Yes, i think he is. He has been very solid this season it think a possibility when Dodd is back is to play Hart at RB and Dodd at LB, and put reid in the centre of midfield. (Waits to be flamed.......)

Oh, he was fine. Distribution could have been better, but ultimately Eagles and Brunt were very good tonight and Reid and Harty coped OK.

That is what is worrying me at the moment. His distribution doesn't seem to be that great for the last few games. He gave it away so many times tonight - which is pretty rare for the Reid of last season...

Reid of last season played on the right, the Reid of this season does not. When Dodd is fit he will prob gp back to the right allthough i would prefer him in midfield.

Reid is the best left back at the club at the moment which is a bit of a pain in the arse as he does slow down progress down that side.

Thought he was a bit unlucky when Eagles got through him as it seemed like a clear handball to me.

Worryingly for mayo that seems to be the case.

Bald Gull, I hear on the grape vine that you have just started a course of hair replacement therapy. Best of luck. Presumably you will now be dispensing with the Bobby Charlton look.

I have been well surprised at how well Hart has taken to playing right back, bit of a revelation.

not really, he's always been able to put in a tackle, a bit of pace and tracked back to cover and has the experience to be able to read the game. only question was would he have the disipline to stay back, which he does seem to have. Quality professional that i for one hope will make it through to a testimonial.

OH GARY HART... (sing to fade.) :clap2:
