Still in Brighton
Sad and shocking news. Remember him well as both a standout young player, a good partner with Steve Foster and then as the more senior pro when Captain. He deserves a tribute. RIP.

Always fully committed and played through some difficult times at the Goldstone. Dreadful news, far too young to die. Thoughts with his family. R.I.P. Paul.

I always tell my kids that they should put in 100% commitment to everything they do.

I wish I had a time machine and could take them back to watch just one game with Paul McCarthy in the side. Then they'd get it.

Sorry to hear this news
Never met Paul but you could tell he was a nice bloke
Never bottled a challenge and was one of the most reliable centre backs we have had.
I think a few of the big clubs were sniffing round him at one time.

Left us much too young.
Glad they recognised home at the theatre tonight

Very sad to hear about Paul McCarthy - I met him when he was playing for Ebbsfleet and he was a gent.

My sympathies to his family.

I really should read those titles more carefully.

I thought a third Beatle had died and that Ringo was the only Beatle left. How devastating that would be.

Then I thought maybe I should have him in my death pool for 2017.

Then I looked him up and found out that he and Ringo had just got together a few days ago and recorded together, the first time in 7 years.

This really is devastating news. The tributes here just show how universally appreciated Macca was as a player and a person.

Remember him well too..RIP Paul and thanks for the memories. The goal he scored against Bournemouth in front of the North stand is one of my favorite Goals at the old ground...mental celebrations. Wish there was video of that somewhere.

Whole of the 1993/94 season
