Haha - The Maynards of Heath Hill Ave, set it all up i recall, and were pretty organised.
In our team - Wayne Spencer, Darren Scott, Bain Kershaw, Craig Whittington and me all from Lwr Bev, with John Simmo and Peter O' Driscol from Coldean

Great recall mate - we even had branded yellow Holdalls..!

bloody hell there are names from the past.

Bain Kershaw?

are we talking ginger fella? alky/junkie?
is he still alive?

I remember being a kid and seeing him off his face on buses and it was hilarious! last i remember seeing him he had been on a moped with no brakes whilst drunk and he had crashed into some steps and landed neck first on some railings..

Around 97 we had massive rivalrys with Denton & South heighton (spelling?) and ASC strikers. That match turned nasty when their striker stamped on our keepers head, then was ordered to kick the ball back, but actually lobbed him and scored!

It seemed dramatic, but was probably really funny considering we were 11....

Did you have TJ in goal for melford Rowdey?

Umm..can't recall that i'm afraid - may well of been, but this period of time preceded my extended stay in the Zap club, so a bit hazy..

Was a 'Wayne' (from Whitehawk area i think) Richard Lacey, and Dave Brand if that helps..

Rare name, so must be the same one; him and his brother Lee weren't particually brilliant people to know back then - liked to hang about West Street with 'Mad' Jock taxing fags and money..

No idea mate, we used to train at Carden Junior school and played at the pitch at the bottom of Carden Hill/ Carden Avenue.

Someone told me what E and A Stood for once. Cant for the life of me remember though.

Played for them late 80's. Also was captain for Carden School. Joe Al Abd was always the best player around at that time for Saltdean.

Then got bought by Whitehawk for £10 (Never quite lived up to the value).

Then Preston Panthers With Ifill.

Then played for Saltdean with him.

Quality player.

Doing well in New Zealand now.

Sounds like a few here might remember the great Saltdean Tigers vs Bevendean Barcelona Under 10's challenge cup final in Wild Park 1980, A star studded Saltdean line up against many of those Bevendean names. We (Saltdean) lost 1-0 but took the league title from Ringmer Rovers a week later. Halcyon days

For The Spanish as recalled his surname..

Was a 'Wayne Davis/Davies' (from Whitehawk area i think) Richard Lacey, and Dave Brand if that helps..

Certainly around my time, but you know, so many titles, so many medals, so long ago.. :p

(For the record, i certainly wasn't one of the better players in BB)

Joe el Abd WAS tiny and i reckon that's him in the front row of the pic. Bear in mind that he was a year or 2 younger than the other lads.

Barcelona were one of the hated teams as bloke called Brian Eason would set about poaching the best players from other teams. Bevenderan Bulls did not last long and I think the badgers are also gone although they may have been the forerunner to Dean Valley united, who arebig in bevendean and seem pretty well organised.

I reckon Old town Boys was the stroppy Eastbourne team mentioned above. They played in norwich colours and were bloody good. John Westcot was a right winger who went on to play for Albion (where is he now?)

To add to those teams already mentioned, how about Queens Park Jags? oh, and I used to joke that E&A stood for Egg & 'Am.

Very random but E and A stood for Eddie and Arthur, I played for them for one season but they were GASH! We played in green and white stripes and played up at Old boat corner. Also did I imagine a team called Queens park Jaguars?

Also our team was called Fiveways Fiorentina and we were donated a Fiorentina kit from the Batistuta era this came about as one of our players uncle played for them in the 70's. We sent them a picture in our kit and apparently it was up in their museum.
Pretty FLAIR really.

Happy day's at Jags. From my PoV, as a manager, it all went wrong when kids went to seniors and moved on to new mates plus the likes of some teams who would nick the best players.

By the time you got to u14 level ther was too much 'attitude' from the kids, the 'best' ones would turn up when they liked or would muck about in training 9if they bothered to turn up) and this was tolerated because the managers & parents wanted to win at all costs.

Still. fun while it lasted.
