In-form Scunthorpe striker Paul Hayes has been attracted the interest of a host of higher league clubs.

Several scouts have been spotted in the stands at Glanford Park this season, with fans trying to guess who they're keeping an eye on.

According to reports in a Sunday newspaper, at least five clubs are following the progress of 21-year-old striker Hayes.

The former Norwich trainee joined the club towards the end of 2001-02 season, after the Iron took over his YT contract at Norwich City.

Championship side Brighton have been linked with him, as have League One sides Bristol City, Blackpool, Doncaster and Huddersfield.

No doubt his agent trying to get a bit of interest going to help his contract negotiations along.

Definitely a no-no if Bristol City, Blackpool, Doncaster and Huddersfield are in for him. We can't compete with big clubs like that. Anyway we don't need a striker now Virgs is back.

Think so - Virgo's success has probably stop us looking for a striker - we need one and we need them now - sunderland we were completely toothless up front and thats not having a pop at Leon !!

I wish i was. Now that Virgs has run his socks off up front and put the ball in the onion bag a few times, is there any point in looking? We have no money so could only get someone on a lower conference salary. Therefore we have to stick with a defender to get us the goals until Falmer comes along. Surely you can put up with 3 (hopefully) years of this.

At least we are actually defending from the front for the first time since the dark pre Zamora days.

Virgo for the next 3 years? No, no and thrice no - there will still be enough money for a loanee or free transfer, within reason - it's just a matter of finding the right one. Virgo is not a striker.

After the Forest game...McGhee said: "Adam was superb and it is no surprise to me that he is playing so well up there.

We don't have any money to bring in anyone with any real experience on loan. You are looking at young players and six of our team against Forest were under 21. At the moment, we are just grateful for any points we can get."

No money for anyone decent on loan.... relax and admire the defending from the front. This beautiful game is not all about goals..is it!?

According to Mark McGhee the reason we lost against Sunderland was because Virgo wasn't playing!

from the Argus:

"The reason we didn't really have a chance of winning the game was because we didn't have Virgs."
