His wikipedia page is hilarious. It's basically a list of failure.

Good first season at Forest. Second was dire. FIRED.
Barnsley - Failed to mount a promotion push from League One. FIRED.
Opened a dog kennel. Bitten by a dog. FAILURE.
Rushden - eight match winless run. FIRED.
Portsmouth - left them bottom of the table. FIRED.
QPR - sacked after five games.
Palace - kept them up by the skin of their teeth. Still FIRED.
Swindon - couldn't save them. FIRED.

I don't think Palace fired him. Didn't he say he was leaving whatever happened with their relegation battle (last season's I mean, not this season's relegation battle)?

He had a short term contract which expired, to be fair. However when he was appointed they were one place above the relegation zone (having been deducted ten points for entering administration, without which they'd have been midtable) and they finished there (by the skin of their teeth). He was hardly a resounding success. From a quick search he made some noises about being happy to stay, but the powers that be at Palace weren't so keen.
