If it is Paul Clement there is the small matter of the Champions League Final to get out of the way before we could even get him on a plane.

There no reason why an interview can't be done on the internet, or after a quick plane flight. Ancelloti would allow him that you'd think before the final.
I just wish I got on it when it was 66/1. It made so much sense.

Clement strikes me as a typical Bloom appointment: Untried or untested but young and ambitious with a good coaching pedigree and with International/Continental experience, pretty similar to both Poyet and Garcia but with the added bonus of being English and cheap. As a gambling man, he seems happy to take a risk on someone new/different rather than big name Managers like Sherwood or Mackay. Dont be surprised if Clement is our next Manager, its where my money is going ( was 28/1, now 3/1 with SkyBet, suspended with StanJames)

One thing .... since when was Sherwood a "big name" manager. He stood-in essentially as caretaker for a couple of months from a youth role (and from what I saw, just moaned about his players all the time when they lost)

My first thought when I looked at his career info on Wikipedia was that the appointment would worry me because he has been exclusively a football coach. However, I believe the appointment could be a good one IF he gets the right No. 2 alongside him.

I don't see that Nathan Jones or the coaches left by Oscar will bring anything new to the party if Clement is in charge - we've already got the Spanish-speaking and coaching innovation covered. What will be key is that he has the right assistant - someone who definitely HAS had management experience before, someone the players will respect, someone with experience of player dealing in the English Football League, someone who won't aspire to take over the manager job for themselves but that could do it if required.

My initial thought for that role would be someone like Mark McGhee - he knows the club, Dick Knight, he knows the captain and CMS from his Scotland days, plenty of play-off and Championship experience, popular with the fans.

Paul Clement as Manager with Mark McGhee as Assistant? I like the sound of that.

Mind you they're the only types that will be interested, as it's finally been said that they wont have a say in what players they can buy, but on what will be given to them.

If Tony wishes to continue playjng the way we do he could be in the running most of the others mentioned will change our style of play which means bringing in more players and more expense.

Tuesday night I asked Skybet to include Clement on their book.
Corals, the only other bookie, had PC at 16/1.
Wednesday morning Paul was included at 28/1.
As it appears to be 'beating the bookie' I had a nibble, and posted here.

For all we know others did as well.
Within a couple of hours Skybet had regulated him down to 16/1.
Then down to 3/1 by the end of trading.

It's got nothing to do with the club, or word on the street.
The reason, and ONLY reason, Clement is now 3/1 in a market that attracts minimal betting, is because Skybet original posted odds that were considerably higher than the competition.


We could make Darren Ferguson 3/1 by tomorrow lunchtime with an outlay probably less than £200.

This presents an awful knife-edge dilemma for Clement:

To carry on working with Ancelotti, albeit not as number 1, Bale, Alonso, Ramos, Di Maria, Ronaldo; OR

To get to grips with the talents and lightning pace of Greer, Andrews, Ulloa and Ankergren.

Although obviously a win-win, Clement must feel torn apart.
