That is the thing, what has Barber done really ? Put up prices, made a pigs ear of sacking the manager and now starting to alienate the supporters. Not exactly a success

In economical terms,we won't see the effects of his work for a while - you can't be so blinkered to think that we'll see immediate rewards to his work...once we've seen the figures for the next year (and moving forward) then we'll know if he has been a success or a failure.

But we won't let irrational, blinkered anger get in the way of logic

There is only two fair ways of doing the transport.
Scrap the travel costs and let people pay their own way.
OR
Divide the cost of transport over all ticket holders and everyone travels for free on the day within the certain boundaries.

This half-way house system is just bullshit.

Quite

How long has he been with the club? If I joined a business in a (the) senior Commercial role my boss would be expecting demonstrable evidence of my revenue building capability within weeks. Putting prices up to my customers wherever I could would likely result in a fairly unpleasant "chat". But that's in a world where if I did that (banking, airline, retail) I'd lose a big chunk of my customers in a heartbeat

Mile Oak, Saltdean, Peacehaven, Hangleton, Woodingdean, Rottingdean, Telscombe, Ovingdean, Kemp Town, North Shoreham...Quite a few I should imagine
But how many of those people have NO OTHER WAY available to them to get to Falmer?

It might be a pain, it might cost money, it might be difficult, but the one thing it won't be prohibitive.

Even if it was impossible and you don't go, there will be others along to take your place, simple supply and demand economics.

I'm not saying that to be an arse.
I'm s/ter currently hanging by a thread, promotion linked with jnr getting older will break that thread.
But it's a fact I'm resigned to, such is life.

I very much doubt that there's a queue of people waiting .. yes we upped our ST sales this year but we've had all the upheaval over summer and clearly a regime that is going to look at every opportunity to raise mandatory revenue from the core support base.

It's a straw poll of 1 but the jury's out for me on future renewals

Great.

There's no way we've reached critical mass for a top 10 Championship team.
If that were to dip, then I think you're probably right.

But if that becomes a top 2 Championship team, I think the JCL's will have UberJCL's to pick on.

Barber works on the commercial side of the Club, so surely would have had absolutely no input on the GP sacking.

The overall dislike for the Man who is at the end of the day only doing his Job, as directed by TB, is totally unjust & to blame everything you don't agree with on him is even worse.

Agree with this. Trouble is most people don't seem to have the patience to wait.

Err ... ?

It was the Poyet / Barber relationship that was described to me as "the reason Poyet won't be manager next season, whether or not we get promotion".

Fair enough but I was of the understanding the club hadn't disclosed the reasons behind his sacking...... & surely their relationship cant be classed as gross misconduct. Does this mean the club has fabricated a reason to get rid of GP to keep Barber happy ? I doubt it

It will be quite simple to check tickets at Falmer platform once they are extended as there will be more than one entrance, let each transport operator be responsible for collecting their own revenue and they would do it most diligently.

There shouldn't be any need to check tickets at Falmer. If every station has turnstiles then tickets are checked on the way out, no need to recheck at Falmer surely?

That's a debate for another thread.

Yes that can be done as is for Lewes bonfire night, every ticket sold to Lewes is a return and same could be done for Falmer and just check the tickets on the outward journies on arrival at Falmer.

Many good points raised on this thread, but unless football fans across the country start to take action in unison the fans will continue to be fleeced while players salaries continue to go through the roof. As someone said earlier FFP had to be introduced to stop clubs from going into administration every few years, but instead of player salaries coming down fans nationwide are being asked to cover the gap.

So don't forget organisations who are trying to change things: STAND AGAINST MODERN FOOTBALL: http://www.standamf.com/ and the FOOTBALL SUPPORTERS FEDERATION http://www.fsf.org.uk/

And just one more thing. For once, wouldn't it be nice for the football broadcasters, SKY BBC ITV etc to talk about these issues instead of trotting out the 'best league in the world etc :bla::bla::bla: cliches'. Of course they don't because they are paid to big it up and ignore the real issues .

I don't quite understand why people are blaming "bad PR" on this thread and others for the recent discontent. That's like saying that you don't mind being taken for granted and exploited, as long as it's done nicely. Because it's not bad PR, is it? The recent decisions have been bad ones. If anything, they've been spun as effectively as possible. But you can't fool - most - people that easily.

But you agree the club made losses last year and need to reduce them thus prices will go up and perks will be cut. Just like almost every other club in the country.
Which decisions recently have not been due to the this?

I think some people would be ok with an additional charge if they knew it was coming, if when season tickets went on sale the club announced that they would be reassessing travel options on the special bus routes, that a different plan may be chosen that may require further payment, people would be less upset, like they did with the prospect of prices going up if we had won promotion.

That they knew there was an issue with the bus routes, and that they could be going elsewhere and didn't forewarn the fans is the crime, not the price increase itself. As you see on this thread, there are fans who feel fans should contribute to their own travel costs, the money isn't the issue for them.
