Oh, I wasn’t questioning your recall of the interview. I was just wondering about this idea of only carrying out checks on 20 % of fans. The club e Mail also mentions ‘spot checks’ only. That is no change on the pre Plan B situation apart from putting a number on it. The actual rules state that all fans need a Covid passport or LFT and I don’t see anything about 20 %.

It was something the club chose to do previously, now it's a requirement (law) so there is a difference........the 20% is a 'reasonable' check to enforce it (like most laws, 100% checking doesn't really exist)

Given Omicron appears highly transmissible by vaccinated people I'm not sure how effective a vaccine passport is as a control anyway though - actually an LFT would be more use

Good to see the club have a “The show must go on” attitude, I’d expect no less

I feel a bit of a hypocrite crying off going tonight though

Don't. If the last couple of years has taught us anything it's that we all need to be aware of our own priorities and well-being.

So only checking 20% is not much more than what has happened to date - I’ve only shown my covid pass once in 5 games.

If the Premier League really want to help society they can do one very easy thing. Any player not vaccinated by end of January is not allowed to play. Sends huge message across society and before anyone says they can’t do it, I see very little difference to all those in social care / NHS who’ve been told the same. Football is a role model in our society let’s have them act that way.

Maybe, though given the limited current availability of LFT kits, that would be a further obstacle.

Be interesting to see how strict it is tonight.

I saw a report in the Times at the weekend that at the start of the season we were one of the few clubs who have introduced mandatory Covid pass checks before entering the ground.

Well, yes we all know that's what's been reported - but I haven't had my pass checked once....

Whatever was reported, we know what the deal was, which is similar to how it is now: pragamtic spot-checking to try and keep things moving.

I think I've been checked twice this seaosn, but I'm a sample size of n=1, so it means nothing at all in terms of extrapolating actual coverage.

At least twice for me......plus at least two for others I've entered the ground with (WSL), but I do tend to arrive quite early so with no queue it's probably more likely

Ah, I see. Didn’t realize that. It’s basically the Government giving a get out to its own rules. TBF it didn’t seem plausible that the club would be going it’s own way on this, hence my question.

Its not a get out to the guidance, its the guidance.
The guidance to fans - you need to bring evidence of a Covid Pass etc to get in.
The guidance to venues - is this is how you check it and record it in order to comply which depends on venue, size, type of event etc.

Nice of Barber to find the time to talk to BBC Sussex, 5 live and Talksport this morning. I presume he's fitted in SSN as well? He absolutely loves the control and attention doesn't he.

I wonder what the other CEOs make of him.

Plenty wherever I've looked - I know that the government website crashed (hardly surprising when lots of people are testing on a daily basis)

If everyone tested on a daily basis, that's approx. 400 MILLION tests required per week!

Probably think he’s showing them up with his openness and effort? [emoji2371]

Personally I think he's an excellent communicator and other CEOs probably regard him as an example to which they can all aspire. Don't agree with everything he's said or done, but we're lucky to have him.

This is probably the most surprising thing - there simply doesn't seem to be.

Thomas Franks spoke about this before the Man Utd game was cancelled...

“I’m a bit in doubt about when it’s enough cases - I guess the Tottenham situation is the precedent we’re going for going forward,” he added.

“It’s a very tricky situation and it’s important the Premier League and all of us follow normal society rules and restrictions, and then I think we should make it very clear what the rules are to cancel a game.”

...and Dean Smith spoke about it after their game last night...

But Smith, who has lost players to both Covid and injuries in recent week, has wondered what the 'magic number' is for a game to get postponed.

"Our sporting director (Stuart Webber) spoke to the Premier League on guidance when we have symptomatic players around us," Smith explained after the defeat to Aston Villa.

"We played Tottenham, they had an outbreak. We played Manchester United, they had an outbreak. We wanted guidance over, would it be fair on Villa if we had symptomatic players around us?

Smith admitted he had 'no idea' how many Covid cases his side would need for a match to be postponed, and it is understood that there is no official threshold for the number of positive cases that would cause a Premier League game to be called off.

The thing is this could be other things like Norovirus which aren't the one in a million issues. Strikes me as very strange that they have not made rules , flexibility is good but not when it can lead to arbitrary decisions around things like this.
