A genuine British eccentric; shame he's gone.

The seaside.
A nasty person by all accounts (I worked on GamesMaster and the stories I heard from those who had to go and film him for it...) but RIP nonetheless. Lived in a giant telescope on Selsey Bill, didn't he?

I met him once years ago and he was an absolute gent. Lovely fella. Legend. RIP.

As he once said ...

“At my age I do what Mark Twain did. I get my daily paper, look at the obituaries page and if I'm not there I carry on as usual.”

He also (allegedly) said....

<Unfounded allegations. Not clever, not funny>

But that's not "by ALL accounts" is it? Plenty of positive accounts too.

RIP PM.

Bit wrong and far too soon IMO.

Sir Patrick Moore was an absolute gent. Met him when I was at college many years ago, took the time to answer any questions we had, despite us all trying to be cool and indifferent I was impressed by his ability to answer every question at length, but in a way that total numpties could understand. A total expert in his field, and played a mean xylophone as well

I don't think adding the word "allegedly" protects you from anything...

I used to live in Selsey Bill too and met him on many occasions and found him a really decent guy, remember me and mate bunking off school once and he stopped in his old morris minor and gave us a lift while we were hitching a lift to chichester. Also when my daughter had a telescope for xmas i wrote to him asking for some tips and he invited myself and daughter to his house and the use of his observatory .... RIP Patrick
